Flower Girl alternatives?

Maddy, on April 18, 2021 at 1:25 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 19

Hey everyone! My fiancé and I are starting to put our wedding party together, and have realized that neither of us have any one to be a flower girl. His niece is too old, and I don't have any friends or family with girls. Has anyone had an experience with this, and if so what did you do? We have a ring bearer, so having a flower girl seems almost necessary. Thanks!

We are in the same situation and decided to do a little twist to the flower “girl”. We plan on having the grooms grandmother have the honor! It will look great for pictures, and be so meaningful!

I saw a video where someone had flower guys who had fanny packs filled with flowers and they kinda danced down the aisle lol, I've heard of making grandmothers flower girls - you don't really need one.

I don't think it necessary to have a flower girl just because you have a ring bearer

Many couples skip the flowergirl altogether and have the florist line the aisle with petals before guests arrive

How old is the niece? There's no real limit on who can be a flower girl. All kinds of people (even dogs) have done it. Or you don't have to have one at all.

We aren't using any young kids in the wedding, but my 12 year old step brother and my FH's 12 year old cousin are going to walk down the aisle together and hand a single flower from a bouquet to the person sitting at the end of each row. Its a nod to the flower girl/ring bearer thing, but without leaving flowers on the ground or using little ones

I've been to plenty of weddings with just ring bearers and no flower girls! At our wedding, we had flower girls and no ring bearers (we only have nieces, no nephews). You definitely don't need to have a flower girl

In today's day it doesn't matter the age. You could see with the niece and see if it's something she would want to do.

We have are having flower guys walking down the aisle with fanny packs full of flower pedals.

How about a dog? I love seeing dogs as part of the wedding.

Alternatives are fine, if that's what you want, but I promise you a flower girl is in no way necessary, even if you are having a ring bearer. These are purely ceremonial roles for people you want to honor. If no one obvious comes to mind, I wouldn't force yourself to find someone or an alternative that doesn't make sense for you.

To honor the grandmas, we are having them walk down as flowergrams! They are throwing dried lavender and dried flowers. People look at us funny when we say that but we just want to honor the people we love, that's what the role is for!

My Meme was super apprehensive at first but said that she would do whatever makes me happy, she isn’t in great health physically so this has been motivating her and she works on walking down her hallway and to the end of the driveway and back 🙂 FH’s grandma seemed kind of insulted when I asked her but realized it was all out of love, they will both be walking with FH’s cousins who I would babysit all the time last summer!

I love the TikToks of guys being the silliest flower tossers. A friend of mine had her grandmas as the flower "girls."

If you're dead set on having a "flower someone", I do love the flower man idea! (In fact, on of our friends specifically asked if he could do it!) However, we're not going to have one. My nieces are our ring bearers and that's it. We really didn't feel like dealing with flower petals all over the place and couldn't justify spending money on something that would be thrown on the ground and then thrown in the trash. The older niece is pulling the younger in a little red wagon, and she'll have a small briefcase in the wagon with her. Both of their hands will be occupied, so they'd have a hard time tossing petals anyway.
