Flower girl - 10yr old niece vs 2yr old friend's daughter

Since my first (& only) niece was born, I knew she would be my flower girl in my wedding. Now I'm engaged, planning my wedding, and my (now) 10yr old niece informed me she really wants to be my flower girl, much to my delight. My fiancee, however, thinks she is way too old, and thinks his best...

Since my first (& only) niece was born, I knew she would be my flower girl in my wedding. Now I'm engaged, planning my wedding, and my (now) 10yr old niece informed me she really wants to be my flower girl, much to my delight. My fiancee, however, thinks she is way too old, and thinks his best friend's 2yr old daughter should be our flower girl. His best friend is his best man, however, I've only met him once (3 years ago) and I've never met his daughter. My fiancee has only met my niece once, but that's only because they live in another country.... Advice needed???

I think Jr. bridesmaid might be a better position for a 10 year old. My 9 year old cousin will be a junior bridesmaid at my wedding. I will be having my MOH's 2 year old daughter as flower girl. But whatever you choose, I would include your niece before thinking about including your FH's BM's daughter.

My FH daughter is 9 and is our flower girl and my niece will be my mini bride...there's so many options for little girls I don't think you have to choose between the two.

I think you could also do both. It helps with the unpredictable-ness of the 2 year old and it makes them both happy.

If it was me I will pick one flower girl and I will pick your niece. Your niece is super excited to do it so why not. 10 years old is not too old in my opinion. Your niece mean way more to you than compare to this 2 yr old that you nor your Fh have ever met. I would want someone meaningful as the flower girl and that is your niece.

Side story one of my sisters was a flower girl when she was 3 years old. When it came to show time as in all the people taking pictures and staring at her, she got stage fright and ran to my mom crying instead. No one could soothe her to complete the job.

Can you do both? I am between FI's 7, almost 8 year old sister and the best man's 2, almost 3 year old daughter. I think the 2 year old would be cuter, but so unpredictable to have a child that young. So I think I'll end up doing both as FGs, maybe the 2 year old throwing flower petals and the 7 year old leading her and carrying a flower pom or something like that.

Agree with PP who said Jr bridesmaid. She could get ready with you, etc., and I bet she would love the role. If you only want one FG and no Jr BM, then niece gets it, hands down. But, there's a role for everyone this way and no hurt feelings. Smiley smile

I'd still have her walk with the 2yo FG.

If you only want 1, then I would go with your niece. She's definitely not too old! At my wedding, FH and I are having his 3 year old niece and 1 year old niece as ours. If the friend's child is close to you, feel free to add her too (if you wanted to that is).

My only niece is 10 also and she is my flower girl. I don't think age matters. If you want her to be your flower girl, then that's all that matters!
