Flower...boys?

Kayla, on September 4, 2016 at 11:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

New poster here, I apologize for the lack of avatar. I'll change it!

My FH and I have no young female family members. He has two nephews who we plan to have in the ceremony. Have any of you ever seen or had a wedding with male petal tossers?

Ask them/their parents. I feel this is such an individual comfort level thing - some boys might love it while others would feel embarrassed.

If the boys don't want to be flower boys get them some cute little signs instead.

Do you have living grandmothers? I asked my nan to be my flower lady, sadly she passed away earlier this year. I've seen some absolutely amazing examples of grandmothers being the "flower girl".

ETA: Alternatively, you don't NEED a flower girl/boy Smiley smile

They will be 4 and 3 at the time of our wedding and will more than likely find it fun. I'll discuss with their parents. I wasn't sure if it was some crazy rule I hadn't seen yet.

If a sign isn't your cup of tea, you could also have him carry balloons in your colors.

Between my FH and I we have 6 nephews and we are including them all in the wedding 2 will only be a year old so they will be in a wagon full of flower petals while my flower girl and her brother (my cousin's twins) pull them down the aisle. While the other 4 all have ring security badges on and will carry the rings down.

I don't see any problem with it. FH has a 5 year old niece, 3 year old nephew and 2 year old niece. The 3 year old boy is not really mature enough to handle the rings or walk down by himself - last time he was in a wedding he didn't make it down the aisle. We are having the 5 year old as a ring girl and the younger kids as flower children and walk down together. I'm not a fan of those signs either

I have a flower boy. He's excited about it. But this will depend on the boy and probably the age. A 4-year-old boy is much more likely to want to do it than a 10-year-old boy.

We don't have any little girls in our family either. We are planning on sprinkling flower petals down the aisle during the set up/decorations and are having my 3 nephews be ring bearers.

The little boy in a wedding I just attended had a box full of feathers that he ended up dumping down the isle. What was funny was that after he ran out of feathers he proceeded to pick up the petals on the ground and throw them at his sister who was just ahead of him. I don't think you need a flower boy but you could make it into something they can enjoy

My youngest son will be 3 and he may be a flower boy, or carrying a locked box wy the rings. Not sure yet. Pretty much expecting him to fistfuls at his sisters, spin in circles, and run giggling (or crying) down the aisle. Same for his youngest sister (18 months) who is walking in with my 13yr old ds.

We're having three little boys in our wedding. They'll be handing out little daisies to guests as they walk down the aisle! It will likely take a while for them to get all the way down, but I'm happy for some attention to be on the little ones (plus adorable tiny bowties!)

It was a long time ago, but when I was 3-4 years old I was a flower girl and my cousin who was a ring bearer actually took his hand out and threw petals too! It was cute in the video, but it does probably depend on age.

I'm actually only having my 2 nephews in the wedding party and I'm not worrying about the florals..I may just have the petals go down the isle but more up against the seats rather than in the middle of the isle.

@OP-- as PP suggested, having a G-ma as the flower girl would be so precious! But, flower girls aren't "needed" really if you couldn't or didn't want to do that.

@Elphaba -- I share your distaste for those signs! I cringe every time I see them!
