Flower Bouquet - how to travel it well?

Future Mrs. Polar Bear, on January 16, 2019 at 1:42 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 5

So were are eloping with our parents as witnesses in TN, we live in WI. The elopement package in TN gave me a recommendation for a florist for my bouquet, however there prices are WOW! expensive. I swear anytime someone hears or sees the word "wedding" the prices are jacked up 50%.

I can make the bouquet myself, I just need the flowers. (3 white Calla Lilly's, and a dozen red roses)

I considered buying them in WI, then travelling with them to TN (so I'd pick them up from florist on 4/11, we drive on 4/12, elopement is on 4/13). How do I keep them alive so long for the trip and keep them looking fresh? This may be easy to some but I can't wrap my brain around it.

My FH grandma said, why don't you buy them in TN? Hey! Yea! I could totally do that..but that makes one more thing I have to try to squeeze in day-of when our elopement is at Noon. That's too tight of a schedule for me, plus if we don't make it on 4/12 to the courthouse to get our marriage license before they close we have to do it on 4/13 before we get married.

I'd ask my mom or FMIL to pick them up from TN florist, but there terrible drivers and would get lost, and confused trying to find the place. I can hear the horror stories now, ha!

My FMIL wanted to make me a fake bouquet that looked real. Which is really nice of her, but call me crazy but I LOVE the idea of the flowers actually dying. We don't like clutter in our house we are very simple people (our mothers are not, ha! they are hoarders). We like that the flowers will be pretty day-of and in photos, we can put in a vase to be pretty in our house so our cats can smell them like they love to do, then the flowers die. The End. We like that.

Much appreciate your recommendations!

Could you order them to be delivered to someone/someplace in TN? A lot of brides order real flowers online. I am not familiar with all the places but I've read on here good reviews for Sam's, Costco, Fiftyflowers - to name a few.

Otherwise, I know keeping flowers in a cool, dark place is the way to make them last. Perhaps putting them in a cooler with just a little ice pack to keep it cool might work?

    Earias,

We don't know anyone in TN, but the cooler and ice pack is a great idea! I can defiantly tell our dog to share the backseat with a small cooler if I don't have any room left in the trunk, ha!

I'll check out those businesses' as well.

    Thank you!

Perhaps your florist in WI could overnight the flowers to your florist in TN? Or, she could package them for you to make them last. I get fresh flowers delivered all the time to my house and some services package them with an ice pack to keep them fresh - maybe the WI florist has something like this she can use?

Is not that hard actually. Find a base that can fill mostly the root for water and then find a box that fits this and keeps it compact that doesn’t move much. If you go to a place that sells flowers by wholesale they have certain boxes that you can put a base in it and keeps it secure. This is how people do delivery.
As far as maintaining make sure you have it on air conditioning at all times. Get a water spray bottle with really cold water and spray on bouquet every once in a while.
