Flower appointment at Kroger - How it went

GrayCatVintage, on October 3, 2014 at 1:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

I figured now would be the best time to get a quote for flowers since I am a year out. I made my appointment and brought a picture of a 13 stem arrangement from the FiftyFlowers website. After the florist totaled up what was in the pictured arrangement I was stunned at the cost - it was almost triple the cost from FF. $30 per centerpiece instead of $11.00 per via FF. Feeling deflated, I went to see what Kroger actually had in their case - they had MUCH larger bouquets with almost identical flowers for only $10 and $15 a piece. The florist then told me if I order 18 "Harmony" bouquets they come made to order and they are the same price as in the store - so $10 each. By doing this, it also knocked off $2 per arraignment for the florist since they are put together at the warehouse. So, they order them, I pick them up and pay, then I would need to cut and stick them in the vases. Seems simple enough and if I wanted I could buy extra in store.

Gray Vntage Cat -- does FF sell premade bouquets? If so, I didn't know that. I thought they only sold boxes of stems (although I think Sam's Club does sell premade bouquets at a very good price -- don't know about the selection). From what I took from your post, it isn't surprising that what's in the case is far cheaper than the quote they gave you for the pieces in the photo you showed them. What's in the case is what is left over from some order they received. The stuff in the case is not custom, and they're really at the end stage of life.

@Centerpiece: I e-mailed FF and they do in fact have "packets" for centerpieces. On their site the ones I were looking at were for a quantity of 18 13-stem centerpieces for $209. The girl at Kroger said if I make a special order, they are shipped to the store the morning of so they are fresh and have not been sitting around. They will even be banded together so they are not mixed up.
