Florists

Sarah, on March 29, 2021 at 10:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

So I just had my first florist consultation and I have no idea if I'm getting a good deal or if I'm being ripped off. I AM having a greenery heavy wedding so I gave the budget of $3000, but I don't know if some things were only priced that way to meet my budget or if I could have gotten the same things for cheaper if I would have said a lower budget.. 22yo bride to be. So lost. Help

Price depends on your location. This is an international forum so no two people will pay the same prices. There's really no way to tell. But $3k will buy a crapton of greenery no matter if you're in a big city or small town. Keep in mind that telling them it's a wedding will make the price increase and you are also paying for their labor per hour.

Have someone go along with you to future consultations if you need guidance.

Hi Sarah, I found florals are really expensive during my wedding process. The florist we had came highly recommended and it was very expensive, but she delivered the florals of my dreams and executed my vision perfectly! Florists typically setup and tear down for you so bear in mind that is/should be included. Will they be providing a item list quote to you?

It’s always good to get another quote to compare!
Mine was also going to be greenery heavy and I was quoted $5,000. I said nope right away and did DIY instead.

It depends on where you're located and what exactly that $3000 includes. We paid $6000 for our flowers but this included a ton of flowers (giant Chuppah, floral centerpieces on each table, etc.) and we had an unusually high labor and delivery fee + we live in a city with very high tax. What does your floral estimate include? It's also definitely a good idea to get other quotes to compare.

Hey Sara! Congratulations on your wedding! I was also a 22 yo May bride (but with an October wedding due to COVID). That's a similar amount to how much I paid and I also did a lot of greenery - I was in the $2500 to $3000 range. Talk with the florist, because if you like their work, you can ask them about budget-saving measures such as repurposing bridesmaids' bouquets for centerpieces etc. Don't be afraid either to go to other consultations either. I interviewed 3 florists and I thought that gave me a good gauge of cost. Florists can be flexible so don't be shy about your wants and needs - costs depend a lot on what you want (is it local/in season), the complexity of the design, how many of each item you need (wedding party flowers, lots of guests=more tables that need centerpieces), and your area (it just costs more to have a wedding in some states more than others).

Here's what our florist ended up creating!

Get several quotes to compare. Floral expenses vary widely depending on your location, time of year, size of your wedding, etc. And they universally always seem to be higher than people expect! Lol. Getting several quotes from
different vendors will confirm whether they are in line with market comps in your area.

They did. I found a couple of the things cheaper online, but for bouquets and things, I'm just not sure.

We can’t tell you anything just based off of the price and ‘greenery’ – florals vary in price depending on your choices (and flexibility), the style of arrangements and how full they are, whether you have to hire any items, the seasonal availability etc. Usually florist’s fees also include delivery, set up and pack down (it is more than just flowers they are supplying you).

The best way to see if you got a good deal is to shop around for quotes from other florists and identify what the average quote is that you’re receiving.

For cost estimates, go up to "Planning Tools", above, and use the guide there to see what is "average" in your area.

    Then get other quotes!

It’s totally understandable. No need to make any rash decisions and sleep on it a few nights. One pro to having the florist is it took a ton of the labor off me as my wedding drew near. For frame of reference, my bouquet cost $150 and my girls bouquets were $100. We didn’t get married in a big city. I also used old bath and body works candles and placed floating candles in them to trim costs. Hope this helps ❤️

Did you tell the florist your budget to start with? If so, I would meet with other florist, show them what you are interested in having done, and see what they quote you. You can discuss budget afterwards.

Hi from another central Iowa bride! I’ve done consultations with 3 florists in town (Des Moines metro) and the ranges have been from $**** for bouquets (4 bridesmaids plus me), corsages (3), centerpieces (9), backdrop/arrangements for altar, table rental, tablecloth rentals, and flipping my room between the ceremony and reception. Each estimate is for slightly different visions (the high end is renting real plants and purchasing some to take home as gifts, the low end was for a place that was newer and was going to recreate my Pinterest, middle estimate would do some independent design, but take my Pinterest into account).

So I don’t think $3000 is too expensive (depending on your budget), but there are probably cheaper options out there.
