Florists not contacting me back

Melissa, on May 15, 2021 at 12:06 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 12
I’ve contacted nearly 20 florists and have truly only gotten quotes from 3. Several just never responded to my initial inquiry and even more have said “oh we will get you a quote in 1 week”. Now it’s 2-3 weeks later and I’m not sure how to follow up with those who haven’t responded to me.
Is it possible that because last weekend was mother’s day they are just slammed and it could take a bit before they get back to me?
I’m just super discouraged and not sure what to do. Of the 3 I have quotes for, one florist refused to see my ideas and gave me arbitrary prices, another told me she’d rather I did what she wanted (not what I wanted) because she wants to use my wedding for her portfolio, and the other is definitely reasonable I just... wanted a few more options. Any ideas or advice would be so appreciated.

How did you try contacting them? I found vendors don't always respond if you reach out via Wedding Wire. I found they are more responsive if you email them from your personal email to their business email. For some reason vendors don't always check WeddingWire to see if someone tried to contact them. Another option would be to call them and see if you can get someone on the phone ikmwd

Oops accidentally got reply before I was done.
Another option would be to call them and see if you can get someone on the phone immediately rather than waiting for someone to hopefully reach back out to you.

For those you *have* talked to - I would nix the ones who gave you arbitrary numbers and the one who doesn't want to look at/go with your ideas - you may not get what you want (I'm sure it'll still be beautiful, but if you know what you want, then you may not be happy)

If you contacted them two or three weeks ago they were probably slammed from mother’s day and are catching up now.

I've noticed a lot of vendors actually just don't reply. idk how they get business lol. I saw it as a process of elimination. if I reached out to a bunch and only a few replied . . they're making my life easier.

I do think its possible florists were slammed because of Mother's Day. I'm in New England and I guess the wacky temps here caused a flower shortage, so a few local flower farms that didn't end up losing their blooms had to supply all of the local markets so it was a bit crazy. I would absolutely follow up with anyone who has long passed the timeframe in which they said they would get back to you. Waiting 2-3 weeks when they said they would follow up in a 1 week and then sending a gentle reminder is absolutely appropriate.

I would not work with anyone who wasn't considering and respecting your opinion. Cross off any florist who isn't interested in your ideas or opinions, including the florist who wants to style YOUR wedding the way SHE wants to so SHE can use it in HER portfolio. Unless she's going to do your florals for free, there is no reason to continue discussing your wedding with her. Its one thing if a florist gives you practical feedback on your ideas (tells you what you want doesn't fit your budget or specific flowers you want cannot be sourced during the season you are having your wedding in, etc), its another to disregard your vision altogether. Continue to talk options with the reasonable florist and don't be afraid to shop around more if you need to.

Same!! I honestly don’t get it. You’d think they’d want the business.

Mother's Day is definitely busy time for florists, plus this is pretty much the busiest year for weddings ever, so they may in fact be busy. The only other thing I can think of why they possibly wouldn't contact someone back would be if you didn't have a realistic budget for what you were wanting. Did you give a specific budget to them?
