Florist - when to hire

Suzie, on October 7, 2019 at 8:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hi all! I am wondering when everyone hired their florist. I called one place that told me they don’t meet with brides until 4-5 months before the date, which seems so late! She said they need swatches of my dress and the BM dresses too. Another place I called said I can come in any time, and don’t necessarily need swatches. I already have flowers and colors in mind, and would rather get someone booked sooner rather than later. I just ordered my dress, but haven’t chosen BM dresses or colors yet. I’m wondering how far out you booked your florist and how much your dress(es) influenced your choices! Thanks!

How many places did you visit before deciding? Were their pricings very different?

We have a wedding planner, so he brought us about 4 different quotes from different places and then we spoke with them before making a decision. We’re in LA and everything is insanely expensive so there wasn’t a huge difference in price.

My MIL is my florist so she was booked since day one. I would say people usually book her 6-8 months in advance and she typically starts meeting with the bride 2-3 months before. They don’t need swatches and she’s only seen photos of my dress and BM dress, but I’m not trying to match my flowers to my BM dresses. My flowers are neutral (white, ivory, champagne, blush and some soft greenery)

I’ve been working with my florist for over a year. Granted she did mention to me she usually doesn’t meet until 8-9 months out. We wanted to start booking things immediately when we decided on a date. ( 2 1/2 years after being engaged lol)

I got my florist reserved for my day about a month after we got engaged I believe, which would've been 9 months before the wedding. She just started working on my centerpieces (they're silk -- but everything else will be real) last week, and the wedding is in February.

I booked my florist 10 months out I think! In SF, vendors tend to get booked up pretty early!

It’s nice that she met with you early. This woman didn’t seem open to doing so even if I wanted to!

This is what I figured, we would book someone early and then finalize later on like most vendors. I don’t want to match either, I already have colors and flowers in mind so it just seems odd to wait so long.

I live in western mass, and from the sounds if it, October books up fast too!
