Hey Everyone!! I have been happily married for about 2.5 weeks and today I received a call from the florist who worked my wedding asking if I can allow the photographer to release photos of my bouquet and centerpieces to them to use for advertising purposes. Has anyone had experience with this? I'm kind of wondering what's in it for me, considering my florist and photographer with both very expensive and idk how I feel about them profiting off of my wedding photos.

As a client looking for vendors I want to see photos of actual weddings they’ve worked, not just a staged photoshoot.

Ah, then personally I think you're being a tiny bit petty if you won't do it just because they're not compensating you or there's nothing "in it for you". If you'd prefer to not have identifying info in the pictures (faces, primarily) I think that's totally fine. One of the ways that vendors like florists continue to get business and good reviews is to showcase the work that they do - i'm sure that's why you picked them. I guess I don't know why you wouldn't want to contribute to that!

I would forward the request to your photographer. Our jeweler asked if they could use photos from our engagement for their social media profiles. I forwarded the request to the photographer to make the decision... I agree with others, it's flattering that she wants to showcase your bouquet.

In theory, you don't necessarily profit anything for this exchange. However, think about how awesome would be to have your flowers featured in advertisements for them?! I think it would be so cool and a complete honor! If you're happy with both their services, why not?!

Nothing stopping them from hiring a photographer to come in to the shop and photographing bouquets, centerpieces, etc they've created a day or two before they leave the shop.

That is not the same as seeing the centerpieces on tables set up or the bouquet in the brides hands. And what about installations that are done on site the day of?

Every single vendor I am using, I've found through instagram by looking at photos of real weddings they've done. It seems common practice to me and I will gladly let them use my photos after my wedding.

So the florist who made the center pieces and bouquets want to use pictures that were taken of theor work to use for advertisement and you want to get something from it? They just want to show off the work they've done. I don't see the harm in letting them show off theor work just because your photographer got great shots of them

I would want some restrictions on the photos if they include us as a couple. One would be that the photos only are used for the florist is a small marketing reach -- not to be used if the florist sells to a bigger group (if that ever happens). Also, probably only allow it for a limited time. If it is the just the florals that appear -- and no identifiable pictures of us -- then it is between the photographer and florist.

Also, it should not be used in a fashion that might become a meme and spread all over the place.

I think that’s completely fair and should be expressed. Florist just wants the flowers, centerpieces, arch, bouquets. Faces don’t need to be included.
