Florist prices in NYC

Eshe , on January 30, 2013 at 6:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

Hello All:

So far I have spoken with two florist and their prices seem to be around $2300. This includes brides bouquet, 5 bridesmaids, 2 mother corsages, 6 boutouineers, and 12 centerpieces. The typle of flowers for my bouquet I want is purple stock, white callas, and orchids. The centerpiece will be blue hydrageas.

I think the price point is kinda high since my budget for flowers is 1500.00. What do you guys think.

I agree! A good quote when u want everything professionally done. I'm in ga and having a few more things than u have mentioned and it's slightly more than that. I would expect for NYC there would be a bigger price gap! All u can do is tailor the estimate to fit the budget u want. Hydrangeas, stocks, orchids and calla lillies are some of my flowers also! We both have expensive taste!

It sounds like a good price to me. Orchids and callas are expensive. Did you tell them your budget? Florists can suggest substitutions to bring the price down to fit your budget.

You can find what you want within your budget. You might want to expand your search to westchester or LI... or the 5 boroughs... You'll find what you are looking for.

That is an incredible price. orchids are about the most expensive flowers you can request, and callas are also up there.

For NYC ...that sounds about right. You could always ask them about using some other flowers then orchids and see what the cost diff. would be. I am sure there are some other prices out there also...see what other options are.

It sounds about right to me... however if you want to supplement some of it look up weddings on costco.com. I've heard from several brides that mixed & matched what was available on there and was able to come in under their budget and it turned out great... the only thing was you have to make sure they are taken care of - like don't over heat & wilt.... each of the brides were able to use the cooler onsite to store them....

Orchids are pretty expensive do I understand correctly that they are only being used in your bouquet and maybe his boutineer? I am a professional wedding planner and designer and I know in Indianapolis it would only be a little less...maybe in the $**** range... There is one thing to take into consideration....I love stock, and the purple color is beautiful, but if you have allergies or have family & friends who do, it is heavily scented and can cause an outbreak of sneezing and watery eyes...not too good for pictures....

That seems a bit high but ask your florist if they are using imported hydrangeas. If they are using the imported ones it's a great price. I'm not sure what size or style your centerpieces are going to be but here are some great links to flower prices.

Where in NYC are you? I've priced out a few florists. Flowers by Brian in Howard Beach gave me an estimate of $1500 for 1 bridal bouquet, 2 BM bouquet, 1 jr bm bouquet, 5 bouts, 10 centerpieces and MOG corsage for that price. Roses and hydrangeas. Teresa Ferrando in New Hyde Park (will deliver to NYC) was $1677 for the same thing.

Something you may want to look into if you or someone you know has a Costco membership. When my friend got married she ordered the bulk hydrangeas from them (online). They shipped to her two days before the wedding and she just followed the instructions and kept them in water. They were so pretty for the day of and she used them for centerpieces. I also noticed that Costco is a lot cheaper than the local florist in my town. It is around $94 for 30 stems of hydrangea. I am getting 150 stems of carnations and 100 stems of babys breath from them for a total of $160. That will cover my pew cones for the ceremony as well as all of my centerpieces. Maybe you could look into just getting the bouquets from your florist and then get the centerpiece flowers from somewhere else.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I do have a costco membership and I will check them out. Great point about the stock and the allergies as I do have them. My wedding is in westchester so I will be looking at florist in Yonkers and the bronx area in the next few days.

That's really cheap. Try 5th Ave florist and events in Pelham; Lidia is fab.

A great thing to keep in mind (and I have to do this on a daily basis) is that our desired budget very often has no relationship to our desired purchase.

If you're wanting delicate flowers like orchids, don't do costco. Hydrangeas are notoriously difficult to stabilize and keep looking good, and you don't want to rely on luck on your wedding day.

That price actually sounds REALLY good for NY. The average bridal bouquet alone is over 200.00.

Who did you use? It sounds about right. I'm in NY and have a similar order as you and I was quoted $4000. I have to use this florist through my venue, I wish I could shop around. I think it's a good price for the quality of flowers you want.

Unfortunately flowrs are a major wedding expense. I am not sure why flowers are so expensive, but they are. ;( I was on an budget and did not want to spend a ton of money on something that was going to die and that people wouild most likely not rememebr. Smiley winking So, I did my flowres myself. Maybe you can be inspired as well http://happinessiscreating.com/my-wedding/

I was quoted $975 using a place called Rose Garden in (Park Slope_Brooklyn, NY. I am having a small wedding so I only needed 6 centerpieces, 1 centerpiece for the main table, 1 bag of rose petals, 4 BM bouquets, and 1 bride bouquet. I am using hydrangea, roses, and lilies. I say visit local small shop florists who will probably quote you a better price. I found my florist by using yelp reviews of local florist and seeing if they did wedding centerpieces.
