Florist consultation

Stacey, on January 9, 2018 at 10:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I am meeting with a floral designer tomorrow at a coffee shop around lunch time. Do I pay for her food/coffee? Sorry if this is dumb question, I've never met with a vendor this way, I'm not sure what to do! Thanks!

Nope. If she wants something she'll get it herself. I met with multiple vendors at panera and starbucks and it was never an issue.

I would say each person pays for themselves since it's just a consultation. Smiley smile

Thanks everyone! I am really excited to meet this vendor, I LOVE her work, I just didn't want to come off rude and the etiquette in this case seemed kinda murky. If it weren't for this site I'd be lost, thanks again!

We only met one vendor outside of their shop/office which was our photographer. We met her at a Starbucks right by where we live, and it took her probably an hour to get there in rush hour traffic in Chicago. We covered her coffee (nothing too expensive), but we also had a gift card we wanted to use lol. It couldn't hurt to cover her coffee, but it doesn't sound like it's necessary either.

We met our photographer at starbucks- by the time we got there they (team) had already gotten their own coffee so we just got some and joined them. I wouldn't cover their coffee or food. If you feel awkward about it, either arrive early and buy something or don't order anything for yourself.

Absolutely not. She is the one trying to gain your business, if anyone is picking up the tab, it should be her.

That said, if it's just like a Starbucks or something, and not a sit down place, and you get there first, I'd just get your own coffee, and let her do the same when she arrives.

This! She is trying to gain your business. Don't expect her to pay, but you don't need to pay for hers either.

Yes, this is what's typical for business relationships! But don't plan for the florist to pay for you.

No. When I met at a coffee shop with my realtor she paid (because she wants my business so I'm a client she wants to treat right). When I met our photographer at a coffee shop we each paid for our own. Both are fine, but you definitely don't have to pay for hers.
