Florist Appreciation - Now or Later?

Lisa, on March 23, 2021 at 6:13 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
I’ll be the first to admit, the hardest decision so far has been finalizing our flowers for centerpieces. I swear I’ve emailed my florist a million times, postponing a year doesn’t help. I’m finally comfortable with our decision and I want to show my appreciation to our florist. She’s responded quickly to emails, provided advise, and revised my quote more times than I want to share.

So my question is, is it appropriate to send a little gift of appreciation (like a gift card with a thank you note) to her now or should I wait until the wedding when I plan to tip her? She owns her business so tipping isn’t necessarily required but, I do think the work she does is fantastic and can’t wait to see how my stuff turns out.

Thanks!

I would just wait until the wedding and give a generous tip

After your wedding, tip her, send her a thank you note (words of affirmation are always welcome!), and post glowing reviews on multiple platforms. Smiley smile

Wait till after the wedding to tip her. You can also send a small gift if you choose and positive reviews on Yelp, GoogleMaps, Instagram, etc

Totally agree with everyone- doing it now might be a little premature.

Another thing you could do to show her appreciation is really blow her business up every chance you get. I'm in a few wedding groups for my state on Facebook, and I will comment and recommend any of the vendors I've been using that have been absolutely amazing so far. They truly appreciate the recommendations given because it helps their business. So definitely do that to share your experience so far! I've done it with my photographer because she's been really amazing.

I would second this advice. Free advertising and personal referrals are how small business stand out and succeed. Gifts and tip after the event.

Also, some quick verbal words of thanks that her extra effort is seen and appreciated is always welcome. I am sure you are already doing this when she is making changes for you but a quick email/conversation simply to say that you appreciate her might go a long way. When I worked at a bakery that did wedding cakes, the clients who were kind got much more accommodations and last minute changes because the owner knew his efforts were really making a difference in their lives by easing their wedding stress.
