Floral suggestions

Beth, on January 12, 2020 at 12:36 PM Posted in Planning 1 15
With some unexpected expenses that have come up we need to tighten up our budget. Any suggestions of how to do florals and keep costs down to $200. I’m not the best at DIY for florals, but have some time to practice if you have tips. I have listed below what we need.
- 1 bridal bouquet
- 1 groom boutonniere - 1 small toss bouquet (is this tradition over yet or am I just over it)
We need something for the following: - 2 small bridesmaid bouquets - 2 wrist corsages for mom- 5 boutonnières for dads (2), groomsmen (2), officiant (1)

Try making the corsages, etc., out of something fake from hobby lobby, etc. You can make those super cheap. Same with boutonniers if you're willing. Then get real flowers for the bouquets and groom boutonniers. I've heard a lot of grocery store florists will make you cheap bouquets from roses, or seasonal flowers. I am not doing a bouquet toss, you could skip it if you don't like it

Check Sam's and Costco. I think you can have anything made with fresh for your budget. Sometimes fake and silk are just as expensive.

Try and Google a wholesale floral store/market in your area, ones that supply the florists. They'll still have to charge you sales tax, but they'll be able to let you know what's going to be in stock the month of your wedding and help you order them in on time. That's what we plan on doing. We did a bit of this for my brother's wedding recently.

If you're unsure how to start DIY-ing flowers, I suggest just looking up tutorials on Youtube. Then make sure you have a good preservative to spray on your flowers once you arrange them! They can make miracles happen...

I've found fake flowers very cheap on etsy as samples (great for corsages and boutonnieres) as well as bundles to make your own. As a result of that, I now intend to do my own bouquet and FH's boutonniere. I'm keeping it simple with just the flowers themselves, so all I should need is ribbon, lace, pins and/or glue.

You can skip the toss bouquet if you don't want to do that. Did you want to use real flowers or artificial flowers or are you open to any ideas like paper flowers etc?

Originally I was planning on ordering fresh flowers from Sam's Club. I'm leaning towards roses and hydrangeas for our wedding flowers and I don't need too much. I can order 125 white roses for $105 and 30 white hydrangea stems for $70. For the past few weeks I've been checking out the roses that my local grocery store has and I may just go with them. They consistently have red, white and pink roses in bunches of 24 for $12.99. Maybe a local grocery store would work for you? I see some brides on here use www.fiftyflowers.com. I quickly looked it up and I could get 100 white roses from them for $140.

I've also seen some brides on here posting good reviews for artificial flowers from Ling's Moments on Amazon. Smiley smile

You could make really nice artificial bouquets, bouts, etc. and come well under $200! Check out JoAnn's, Michael's and Hobby Lobby and sign up for their rewards programs, that will save you a ton, and keep your eye on the ads for sales on florals in store! Some of those stores even offer free bouquet making classes!

I am also considering DIYing my flowers and am leaning toward fiftyflowers.com or Sam's Club/Costco to keep costs down. I like that fiftyflowers.com has search capability based on what types of florals you're looking at, and then you can see how they were used in real weddings - all the way down to exactly what each person ordered for their floral needs. I'm leaning toward having my bridesmaids carry 2-3 single stems with a ribbon wrapped around them (super simple) and may use fake flowers or more hardy natural elements (grasses/twigs with berries/feathers) for the men's boutonnieres so I can make them in advance. I haven't looked into it, but there are also companies where you can rent silk or wood flowers just for the day - Something Borrowed Blooms has really nice ones, $5 for a boutonniere and $12 for most corsages. Good luck!

As a follow up, I have since gotten ads on social media for Something Borrowed Blooms and decided to look into it - apparently they give a complimentary "toss" bouquet with orders over $65, and I just got a code on Facebook for a free groom's boutoinniere with code SOCIAL. Just thought I'd pass it along! Smiley smile

Im renting from Something Borrowed Blooms! I ordered a sample bouquet and fell IN LOVE! I'm spending next to nothing compared to my quote on real flowers and I feel better about returning them in the mail than throwing them away for being stuck with a bunch of fake flowers!

I would buy dried flowers and turn those into a bouquet. I've seen nice ones recently at Target, and you can order a small one of dried flowers for $30 on Anthropologie. I'm sure Etsy has a ton of dried flowers too. Etsy def makes dried flower boutonnieres. You can buy ribbon from Michaels to wrap them up and make em pretty. =]

    GOOD LUCK!

For starters, if you don't want to do a bouquet toss don't do one and eliminate that "need" from your list. Frankly I think the tradition is outdated and I think it really unfairly puts single women in the spotlight. I've been to dozens of weddings and only one wedding had a bouquet toss, which I avoided entirely.

You should also decide how much you want or need those other things. Flowers aren't actually a requirement. Some women find wrist corsages really uncomfortable and don't want to wear them. Some people don't do boutonnieres, etc.

Go with in-season flowers (they're less expensive) and check out your local grocery store, Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club, etc. Also consider using more greenery instead of just florals for everything. I personally think greenery makes for awesome boutonnieres in particular and using fresh greenery is typically a lot less expensive than using full blooms, plus greenery is often a bit sturdier, which is ideal if you have inexperienced hands putting everything together, as some blooms are really delicate and temperature/touch sensitive. There are tons of examples on Pinterest of bridal bouquets, centerpieces, etc. that use a lot of greenery and are gorgeous.

We aren't doing a bouquet toss (or a garter toss, for that matter). Eliminating both of those traditions because they just don't agree with our morals, so if you don't want to do it, don't. No one we've told has been upset that we aren't doing this (and if they are, it's a small thing they'll get over).

With that budget, I'd suggest getting some really pretty fake flowers from all the suggested stores above and DIYing them. It can turn out really beautifully and for much less money. Good luck!
