Floral Budget Cutting Ideas

Nicole, on September 10, 2019 at 7:25 PM Posted in Planning 1 13
I absolutely love floral, but I feel like I really need to cut my floral budget down as much as possible.

Any tips or tricks on how you eliminated costs? And what would you say is average cost spent on floral outside of personal floral?

I repurposed flowers from my ceremony arch to my reception which saved money. You can also do single flower bouquets for your girls to save a bit of money. And make sure you choose flowers that are “in season” for better pricing.

Are you able to diy your Floral arrangements?

Dollar Tree Vases will definitely save money.

You can do floating Petals, either real or artificial.

Also, if you have a Grocery store or large box store that you can purchase Flowers from, that will help too.

I’m planning on making crepe paper flowers. I am generally pretty crafty and there are a lot of online tutorials that look pretty simple.

    We did non-floral centerpieces:

Even lanterns with only fresh greenery would look fantastic and not be as expensive as big floral centerpieces. Something like these:

Comparison shop and tell florists about both your vision and your budget. Daughter saved $1000 by finding an awesome florist who did beautiful work and was WONDERFUL to work with, whose proposal was $1000 less than the next lowest bid she received. She made beautiful low centerpieces of roses, hydrangea, and seeded eucalyptus for $35 each -- and they were equal to, if not nicer than those another florist was going to charge $75 for. I also agree about re-purposing arrangements. Daughter's ceremony arch arrangement was equally stunning on the Sweetheart table. The florist provided dollar store vases for the six bouquets. Daughter's was on the cake table, and the bridesmaids were on the bar, coffee, and gift tables. The girls carried their bouquets through the bridal party entrance at the reception, then the coordinator picked them up from them and put them in the vases, where they decorated the room for the rest of the night. The girls took the bouquets and vases home at the end of the night. In total, daughter spent about $1800 for her bouquet (all roses with eucalyptus), 5 BM bouquets (roses/hydrangea), 2 FG bouquets, a free toss bouquet, 11 rose boutonnieres, 2 rose corsages, 2 long-stem roses for the mothers, 13 table centerpieces, 4 cocktail centerpieces, a very large rose altar arch/Sweetheart table centerpiece, full petal coverage for both sides of a 50' aisle, 3 small arrangements for the cake, etc. Keep looking! (I believe daughter found her florist on either WW or Knot vendor searches. She specifically looked for vendors who claimed to be lower cost....) Good luck!

A friend of mine DIYd her bouquets from flowers purchased at Costco they were very affordable and beautiful. She used Sunflowers for the wedding cake. I swear she doesn't have a create bone in her body lol (all brains) but she did a good job.

I went with her to buy the flowers and had I not I wouldn't believe she did them alone.

I researched and spoke with our florist who was more than happy to work in our budget range. We are also incorporating silk arrangements to intermingle with our actual floral and our florist used the same type of flowers at her own wedding and said she can use them for our's as well. It's so nice of her and also our something borrowed.

I created centerpieces that wouldn't require so much floral. Essentially I have 3 different variations of centerpieces and only one kind is a full floral arrangement, the other is a lantern with two little groupings of flowers on either side, and the last one is fully DIY no flowers. Also ask yourself how badly you want some type of arrangement. I wanted hanging lanterns that had flowers on top but the cost for the flowers and them to install became something not worthwhile to me. I also cut out the side piece for my arch and will just have the top corner piece. I cut out the flower girl crown and DIY'd my own. Consider truly how many bouts and corsages you want to spend money on. We opted to cut out grandparents as the expense was too much on top of the groomsmen and parents. Also, always remember your bridesmaids' bouquets can double as decor around the reception. So rather than getting arrangements for your guestbook table cake table etc, put filled vases around the room and tell your girls to place them there til the end of the night to take home!

We are using the grocery store. Shoprite in our area are all known for good floral arrangements. My sister had hers done there and you would never guess as they were so beautiful. We got 11 boutonnières, 6 bouquets and 3 corsages for under $400

We have done all our non-critical flowers from amazon and we are ordering the real ones from Sam's Club. I've seen them used at multiple weddings and were beautiful. I had to go non-traditional because all the florists were booked by the time I set a date!

Cheaper centerpieces, cheaper flowers and less flowers overall.

-We didn't have a bridal party so saved money on those flowers.

-Cut corsages/buttonnieres on everyone besides parents.

    -Fake petals for flower girls.

    -Gave up the orchids.

-Don't have any flowers around the reception space besides centerpieces, head table and my bouquet. This means no flowers around the welcome sign, none on the gift table, cocktail tables nada.

    -Flowerless centerpieces and decor.

-Stick to just wedding party flowers. Cut parents and grandparents if you need to (this may offend some, but hey you're on a budget).

    -Keep it simple.

-Try to use the same flowers in all designs. This make shipping and overhead costs down for your florist who may pass the savings on to you.

-Order flowers that are in season (again this is more cost effective for your florist).

-Ask your florist if they have recommendations for cheaper lookalikes.
