Floral Backdrop Advice?

A., on January 13, 2018 at 10:48 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

Hello all - florist is saying that they cannot decorate a pipe/drape backdrop due to "insurance" issues and do not want to be responsible for injury in case it falls, due to the weight of the flowers - how do people get their backdrops decorated with florals if florist is refusing to do it?! Advice? I am also considering an arch instead, it's just so much more expensive than pipe/drape - pictures attached -

I haven’t run into this issue, I am sorry. Have you asked multiple florists?

Your venue should have liability insurance.

Also you second pic is a 4 legged covering not an arch, as an arch that would def fall down.

A floral backdrop is one place where you can use faux flowers as your guests don't usually get close to the altar. A good technique is to mix in a few real flowers. You can do arrangements in blocks of floral foam and wire them on at the last minute.

Do you have the ability to wire the pipe and drape to columns or something else that will give more support so it doesn't topple forward?

You can see in these pictures of that wedding that the arch is similar to a chuppah in construction if not in decor.

I’m surprised the florist doesn’t know how to set it up so that it’s sturdy and stable.

I know the 2nd picture isn’t an arch, it says floral backdrop. The twig arch is the 3rd picture

She is referring to the construction- two supporting posts= arch, four supporting posts = chuppah, pergola etc.

I'm getting a backdrop pretty much like your second pic but with only two legs. My florist had no problem doing it. If the base is sturdy it won't be an issue. I think they make out of wood. I'll know at my wedding tomorrow.Smiley smile

Congrats, I hope you have a beautiful wedding! How much did it cost you, if you don’t mind me asking?

Too much probably. My florals got out of control and then I couldn't say no once I saw the ideas. Just looked at my bill...it's grouped with all the ceremony flowers/decorations. Includes draping, fairy lights in flowers, clusters of lanterns at base with scattered petals, small buds of roses and lanterns with petals/buds up the aisle. $1100.

Ours didn't recommend doing it because in June the flowers would wilt quickly and not look great, so we are doing real touch artificial. I've never heard of it being a liability issue.

I had a few quotes from florists for doing florals for a pipe and drape backdrop and an arch. I never had one say they couldn't do it. Maybe you need to ask a different florist?
