Floating Candle Centerpiece

Lauren, on April 6, 2018 at 12:57 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17

I love the floating candle centerpiece idea with the flowers and glass gems but I heard that if you use silk flowers that they will bleed. Has anyone done these with silk colored flowers and had this happen?

Following. I love this too, this is almost exactly what my centerpiece will look like but with petals. I'd hate for them to bleed!

I know right! I love this look but I don't want to waste the money on supplies when it won't work. Hoping others that have done this will let us know how it went for them Smiley smile

Is it possible to do a test with one? It does seem like a great idea though.

I was curious so I looked it up. You should purchase submersible flowers. They are either made of a color-fast fabric or latex. Check out this tutorial for help. http://diy.wed-central.com/?p=272

There are some good You Tube videos on this as well.

I would suggest testing everything! I tested my flowers when I got them to be sure and they did fine in water for a full 24 hours.

My centerpieces were similar just larger and I did use silk flowers. I did a test with one of the flowers and had no issues. I do know that if you have an issue during your test there is a product that protects them from bleeding you can purchase at your local craft stores. Hope this helps.

Could you maybe use real flowers?

I had this exact centerpiece but with real flowers....maybe try testing it out before with the flowers you'll use?

You should test the flowers before and have them submerged in water so if they bleed, they'll bleed beforehand. That way, when you use the flowers for your reception, the flowers wouldn't bleed anymore.

I actually tried floating candles and they didn't hold up for six hours so I was kind of disappointed

I plan on doing a mix of floating candles and regular standing candles!! It’s going to look so pretty! Our reception is only 3 hours since it’s a small destination wedding! I’m not using any flowers or anything in the water!

This is very similar to the centerpiece I'm doing and I believe my florist is using a real flower (orchid)
