Flipping the ceremony space into a reception space

Angelique, on April 4, 2020 at 4:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Does anyone have any thoughts or tips on flipping a venue to use it for both the ceremony and the reception? I am getting married in December and the building is big enough that I could separate the space into a reception space and a ceremony space but there is a fireplace on one side that ideally I would like to include in both the ceremony and the reception. I think it adds a cozy touch. I am a little stressed about having the time to flip the space into a reception area after the ceremony since I do not have a large amount of help. I am not sure if it is worth the time and energy to flip the space or if I should just split it in half.

I feel like you should just split it in half unless you can afford to hire some people to flip it for you (which, you may be able to find people to hire that would do it pretty inexpensively). But I wouldn’t want to burden myself or my friends and family with worrying about flipping the room during the wedding

Does the space allow you to have guests seated at their reception tables for the ceremony? That would give you the best of both worlds; fireplace and no flipping.

Unless you hire someone to handle set up, I wouldn't recommend having you do this yourself or having your family or friends do this. I know when we looked at venues some of the venues would have flipped the ceremony space for the reception and I wasn't a fan of the idea. We ended up going with the venue that had separate spaces.

Yes splitting it in half or having a really unique ceremony set up would be your best bet if you are not hiring a coordinator and team to flip it. We are getting married in a mansion type venue and are flipping the ceremony space but our venue requires us to hire a day of coordinator and her and her team will be flipping the space during cocktail hour.

I am not sure if they allow that but that might be a good alternative. Thank you for bringing it up!

My room is being flipped by the venue staff from during a short cocktail hour. We were told that their staff should only take 10-15mins to set up the reception space.

We are doing the wedding and reception in one venue. I have been playing with floor plan layout. One idea for your venue is to have the ceremony in front of the fireplace then afterwards use the fireplace for the backdrop for your sweetheart table/bridal table. Allow guests to sit at their tables during the ceremony.

I wish my venue had a fireplace or an interesting feature like that. I had a venue picked out, but it did not allow alcoholic beverages. So we had to select another location. Our wedding is in October (less than 200 days away). I have been stressing over my setup. It will all come together in the end. As will yours.
