Flags for ceremony exit/send off

Vanessasaurus, on May 20, 2018 at 11:09 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
Hey everyone! FH and I are planning a London themed wedding since we got engaged there last year and love all things British! We were thinking of doing something a little different than sparklers/bubbles/ribbon wands/glow sticks and have opted to do flags for our exit instead, but I have 3 questions:

1) Would this be better for a ceremony exit, or as a send off at the end of the reception?
2) Should we do all British flags or a mix of American and British flags like in the picture included? (We are getting married the week before Independence day so I'm not sure if including American flags would make more sense)
3) How should I make them available for guests to grab/know their purpose?

TIA!

Flags would be a darling reception sendoff! What a wonderful way to incorporate your engagement story into your wedding!

    1) How late does your reception end? Are the majority of your guests likely to stay until the end? If so then I think it would be a fun send off, but if not then you could go for the ceremony ending. It might be easier to corral guests at the end of the ceremony since everyone will be close together already.

    2) I like the idea of mixing both in! I wish I had done this for my wedding!

    3) If you're doing it after the ceremony I'd have your wedding party and/or ushers pass them out and help arrange people. If it is after the reception you could do that as well, or you could put the flags on each place setting for guests to grab.

Thank you for your input! We are going until midnight and I think you are right it would be easier to get everyone together at the end of the ceremony. Do you think putting them on each chair would work?

Love your idea! I wish I'd seen this before for our multicultural wedding!

I like the idea of send off after the reception but it can be tricky to get everyone together, I think the ones after ceremony usually work best, but it depends on your crowd.

Any time! I'm also into all things British, since I am married to a Brit! How did you and your FH first get into British culture? What was your London proposal like?

Prior to meeting FH, I was really into British television and literature. Me and my close friends used to have little viewing parties for both Sherlock and Merlin. I also studied English for my undergrad and fell in love with English literature. Prior to meeting me, FH was a huge Arsenal fan and loved to watch the English premier league. Once we met, he hooked me on Arsenal and I hooked him on British TV.

Our propsal was lovely! It was on first day in London and after exploring the city and such we headed over to the London eye where we had a reservation for the champagne experience. He asked the attendant to take a picture of us but he actually ended up taking a video of FH proposing!

What an exciting proposal, I bet the video is lovely! I just noticed your profile pic has Tower Bridge behind you, was that taken on your proposal day?

I love Sherlock! And my DH is also an Arsenal fan Smiley heart

Will you go back to London for your honeymoon?
