FitBit or other....

m, on May 18, 2015 at 4:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Anyone have any particular reccomendations for the best fitbit version, or other brand?

I've been using a pedometer on my phone, but I don't always have my phone on me, or it dies, etc etc. Thinking about just buying myself a present and getting on.

Which do you like? I'm notoriously bad about charging things, and I would like to use this for the sleep mode/tracker too... does that kill the battery?

I love my Fitbit One. It clips on instead of wearing it on the wrist all day like their other options. The majority of people I know own a Fitbit so we have challenges and cheer each other on which is great motivation! I use mine to track sleep too and the battery lasts a little over a week until it needs to be charged again.

I use the FitBit Charge. The battery lasts a long time, I hardly ever charge it actually.

So the FitBit One is a clip on like the zip but also tracks sleep?

I know the wristband will drive me nuts, and need to have it clipped to my jeans or something.

Yes the One is a clip on but it tracks more than the Zip!

ETA: The Zip tracks miles, steps, and active minutes whereas the One tracks floors, miles, steps, active minutes, and sleep. The Zip uses a watch battery so it does not need to be charged and the One comes with a charger that you can plug into a computer to charge about once a week.

I have a fitbit flex and love it. I wear it when I sleep to track sleep patterns too. It usually needs to be charged about once a week which I just do while I'm sleeping - it gives you plenty of notice when the battery is going to die so you can charge it. I definitely recommend it!

I have had a fitbit for about 4 years now. My current version is the Flex, and I love that there are different colors of bands and such you can wear. Especially since i work in an office envioronment.

I really like that it tracks accurately. It does not track stairs or HR if that matters.

My FH has the newest one that also tracks heart rate, etc. But its almost twice the width and is giant on my wrist.

You have to charge the Flex about once a week, and i just do it Sundays when i normally am doing nothing productive anyway. If you set it to only track steps when synced the battery lasts a bit longer.

I had a few other versions. If charging is a huge issue for you look into their lowest price point option ( i forget what it's called) it uses a watch battery and supposedly lasts a long time. This is the style that clips on your pants. I personally had a hard time with the types that clip to your pants, and washed two fitbits before moving the wristband flex.

We have WalkingSpree at work. My el-cheapo one I put on my pants every day and it works just fine. Their version of a "FitBit" is only $45.

I have the charge hr too. It only needs to charge about every 5th day. I used to use it everyday, but I haven't been lately so I restored the factory settings and I am selling it.

I have the Fitbit One and love it! You can also sync it to any other programs you use like My Fitness Pal or Runtastic.

I have a Fitbit Zip. It's small, inexpensive and simple. It is a constant reminder to get up and move. I have a put it through the washer about four times over the past two years and it still works just fine. Smiley smile

I just recently got the Fitbit Charge HR, after I sent in my recalled Fitbit Force. Like, mrjonesandme said, I have to charge it about every five days, the heart rate monitor is what kills the battery the most. The Force (which now has been replaced by the Charge) lasted about 7 - 8 days on a single charge.

I know you said the wrist wearables would kill you, but I think you might find that you would get used to it. I never used to wear anything on my wrists (not even a watch)...and now I can't live without the thing!

I like that the Charge HR has a watch-like band, rather than just a snap-type closure. I find that it is very accurate with walking and running tracking, but if you are walking and your arms are stationery (like riding a bike, or pushing a shopping cart) the results are not accurate.

I have a fitbit Zip too; it tracks steps, it's simple, it runs on a battery, and FITBIT's customer service is just outstanding. It's cheap, accurate and gives me all the data I need.

I need the price of the Zip but I want it to magically track my sleep. I have horrible sleep patterns adn am always interested in how my body reacts to different attempts to help me sleep, so I may have to suck it up and get the One.

I have the Fitbit flex (I think they are $99.00. It was a gift). I track my number of steps, but I don't feel that it motivates me at all. I am a light sleeper and it drove me BONKERS to have it on my wrist at night. Now I never use it for sleep. Also if you hammer or tap with your hands at all it automatically puts it into sleep mode. I was pushing a bumpy cart at home depot and it went in and out of sleep mode for 30 mins while shopping. Annoying. Otherwise all I use it for is counting steps. Sorry, not trying to be a Debbie downer. Smiley smile For exercise I much prefer my pulse heart rate monitor. It is a chest strap/watch that helps encourage you to stay in your fat burn zone. I know the charge claims to track heart rate, but from the wrist. Not all that accurate.

My friend using Misfit. It's very similar to Fitbit but less expensive. She got hers off of amazon and uses it every day.

I have the garmin vivofit, not sure how much it costs bc FH bought it as a gift, but I love it. It tracks steps, sleep cycles, and has a heart rate monitor. It saved me during my half marathon when my phone app run keeper didnt track the first two miles or my pace. I was able to keep track using the mile counter on my garmin. It comes in cute colors (i always wear the pink one though).

My friend has gone through several fitbits and although she really liked them, she made the switch bc the batteries kept dying on her. She's had her garmin for a while now and never had the same issues with the battery. So when I started looking for mine, she suggested I go with garmin and I'm glad I did. And I'm glad FH knew how to navigate my amazon wishlist!

Ps it syncs with your phone, tablet, computer easily and also syncs with the ihealth program on iPhones and my fitness pal for calorie consumption!

I have the fitbit charge. I love it! I love that it can double as a watch, and I can view the steps and other info right on the band rather than having to pull up my app all the time.

I'm currently using the Withings Pulse. I love it! I have their scale as well so it all syncs together in the app. I don't think many people us withings but I've always been a fan of their products. Check them out!!
