First time trying on dresses!

Annmarie, on December 11, 2022 at 12:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 5

I am trying dresses on for the first time this coming Saturday at a David's Bridal! It wasn't my first choice for a store but they were able to schedule me in last minute, and it will be good to get a feel for styles and colors.

I'm bring my 3 sisters (they are my MOH and Bridesmaids) and my mom. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm a little nervous because I usually get discouraged regular clothes shopping but I'm trying to be postive and open-minded. Smiley smile

Go in with the expectation that you are just getting a feel for your options. If you fall in love, that's great, but keep the stakes low. Assume this is just a first trip. That may keep you from getting discouraged. Also, keep in mind that anything you will get will be altered and alterations can do good things. When you are regular clothes shopping you may get frustrated because things don't look perfect as is.

    Good luck and have fun!

Thank you for your advice! I am very excited but reminding myself I'm not seeking out The Dress, just exploring!

A little more advice- be open to trying dress styles that you may not like or want to see yourself in. This can include fabrics, lace/no lace, bling/no bling, sleeves/no sleeves, and so on. If you’re open minded and try on a different style but don’t like it, that’s okay. You gave it effort and now you know that it’s not for you.
Sometimes it helps to look at each dress not as a whole, but to point out what you do and don’t like about each dress. This may help you find your style and what you’re comfortable in. Keep in mind though that just because you hated the illusion neckline on one dress might mean you like it on the next dress if it has a different shape or design.
I know there has been quite a few times where the bride has gotten caught up in what is or isn’t designer or from a specific line they want. Try to keep in mind that just because you may love the dress in the magazine, doesn’t mean it’s the best one for you. It’s okay to pick something else if you end up not liking it on you as much as you thought you would. I recommend having a budget in the back of your mind, just in case a dress feels like it could be the right one. Not everyone finds the right dress at the first place. Sometimes it takes many stores, and that’s okay. It’s also okay if you don’t have the “bridal moment” where you realize that you’ve found “the perfect dress.”

That is all such great advice, thank you Gillian! Since it is my first time trying on dresses, I really want to try on a variety of styles to see what I feel comfortable in.
