First Time Dress Shopping

Michelle, on May 3, 2020 at 1:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
I am going dress shopping for the first time tomorrow and am feeling a little anxious about it. I have appointments at 2 salons. My concern is, if I find a dress I love at the first place, should I still go to the second appointment? I feel like I will want to make sure I’m not missing anything. I am more than likely going to be shopping off the rack as well, since my wedding is a little more than 6 months out. If I find one I love at the first salon, but don’t say yes because I want to go to my other appointment, will they hold the dress for me?

Go to a few. Try all styles. Think over at least one night before you decide to make a purchase 😉

I think it would be good to go to multiple shops

Explore as many options as you can and definitely sleep on it before you jump the gun. 6 months could give you enough time to order your size too.

I found the dress I fell in love with at first salon, and I had appointments at 3 other places that day. I went to the other appointments and slept on it for a few days. I went back to the first salon and bought the dress I loved off the rack at a discounted price.

Like PPs said, definitely go to both appointments - even if you find a dress you love at the first place. Enjoy the experience!!

I agree with everyone on here. Go to your second appointment. I went to 10 different stores throughout my 3 month journey dress shopping. I tried on every different style of dress because I wanted to make sure that what I thought I loved was actually what I loved and that I wouldn’t be pleasantly surprised by a style that I had not contemplated on originally. I tried on about 60 dresses. Became confused at one point about the style that I wanted. But ultimately, I went with my gut and returned to the first store and purchased the original dress with custom additions from a couple of dresses that surprised me a little bit. It is always sensible to have a contingency plan. So, take your time and research. If you get that feeling from the first store, try on another dress at your second appointment to confirm that what you were feeling was valid. A lot of times we feel emotions simply because of the circumstances. For instance, being in a store with beautiful gowns and getting pressured by your family and friends, because they feel it looks beautiful on you. Some stores will place a courtesy hold a dress for 24 hours. Take your time and enjoy the experience!!!

No, a salon won't hold a dress for you if it's off the rack. I totally understand wanting to go to multiple stores but if you fall in love with one from the 1st store, I'd consider going back to get it later that day or go back in the next day.

Definitely go to your other appointments, you never know what you might find better, plus you might want some add ons from different styles. I ended up going back to my first store and luckily the dress was still available, but I wouldn't have been absolutely sure if I hadn't gone to the other stores.

My dress was off the rack and they held it for me for while I went to my next appointment, it could just depend on where you go and who your consultant is. It doesn’t hurt to ask if they will hold it for you.
But I do agree with going to the other appointment! I found the one at my first appointment but still wanted to see what the other store had. After a horrible experience at my second appointment I went back to the first store and put the dress back on and bought it there.

So many brides on here end up with dress regret because the push to purchase immediately is so strong, but I would suggest sleeping over it at least. Make sure you get plenty of pictures of yourself, and look at them again outside of the salon setting when you've had time for the adrenaline to calm down. It's hard to hold onto that gut feeling but it does happen! I would just suggest sleeping on it to make sure you really love the dress.
