First Looks

We're doing a first look because logistically it would work better. It would be pretty hard for us to stay separate from each other, based on how the venue is set up. And I honestly don't mind. It's totally okay with us. We love each other and we always have a twinkle in our eyes when we see each other, even on a regular day.

I thought about doing a first look but I want him to be blown away when he sees me, I want it to be a complete surprise!

I’m going to do a first look with my dad, and have my first look with my fiancée when I walk down the aisle

We did a first look and it was one of my favorite moments of the day! It was so special having that time between just the two of us. The moment walking down the aisle was still very special. It’s a completely different feeling when the music is playing and you turn the corner down the aisle with your fiends and family and your eyes catch one another’s. No part of our first look took away the special moment of seeing each other first time down the aisle!

I'll probably cry too lol. I think waterproof eye makeup and a little touch up before the ceremony or more pictures will do the trick. I'm sure you will look beautiful and perfect no matter what and your SO will agree!

Our venue is sort of forcing us to. The venue is a zoo and they don't do their events until after closing, but offer a photo package inside the zoo with animals and zookeeper helping get their attention if you can do the photoshoot before. Plus our wedding is in January, so the sun goes down early, limiting the time we have available with natural light.
I'd originally preferred waiting until walking down the aisle, but reading some of the comments on this post has made me feel better about the whole thing

First look

We didn’t do one and I am SO glad. I didn’t want to risk anything detracting from the moment he sees me walking down the aisle (seriously, look at this face!!!) I know plenty of people who did first looks say that it didn’t detract from the emotion of walking down the aisle but really, no one can say that for sure because no one has ever done it BOTH ways lol, and possibly losing even a fraction of the amazingness of seeing this reaction at the ceremony was never something I was willing to risk!

Also, I was never able to get on board with the logic of “it’s nice to have a private moment together when you see each other dressed up before the ceremony” because really, if you wanted a “private” moment then you should’ve eloped lol. We WANTED our guests to share in this special moment with us... that’s why we invited them!

This is totally not to criticize anyone who does a first look, I mean to each their own and I do see the perks of getting more photos before the ceremony (though, we got more than enough photos anyway!) but this is just my opinion and why we decided not to 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also, another relevant factor is we had a 12pm wedding and actually part of the reason for that is so we didn’t have to do a first look 😂 if you’re having a late afternoon or evening wedding I understand wanting to get your photos done earlier in the day, but since I knew we didn’t want to do a first look I made sure our wedding was early so it wasn’t like we were missing too much of the day before seeing each other.

My FH adamantly refused at first, but then one day he decided he wanted to do it. He realized that when we would have more time to ourselves before all the hullabaloo and not be rushed through those intimate moments for our bride and groom photos, it was the better choice. Besides, this way you can capture the REAL emotion and talk it out rather than having to put on a face for 100 guests. I know I’m going to cry and I don’t want to have to keep it in and then try to talk 2 minutes later.

My fiancé and I are doing a first look photo shoot because we have a spot we really want to take photos at and we are worried if we wait until after the ceremony there could be an event going on there or something. Our wedding is on a Sunday and where we’re getting married is a small town in VT that does a farmers market on Sunday (usually in the afternoon). We don’t know if they do it during the fall though. So, we’re doing a first look photo shoot so we ensure that area gets used.

So I am actually the one who is fully against first looks. My fiance doesn't like them either but this is my 2and and his, but for my first we eloped and I didn't get to experience a real wedding. I want to see his face when he is standing up there waiting for me. I have decided on doing first looks with my Dad. I think it will be really special to capture that moment with him when he sees me for the first time.
