First look

Katie, on February 3, 2021 at 10:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
So we are having the whole wedding from ceremony to reception at the house in the back yard. We are doing a first look, we'll my fiance thinks we are doing a first look when in actuality the best man and him are doing the first look. The best man is wearing a cheap white dress, he will show up instead of me and surprise my fiance. I've seen it done a couple of times and just love it. The photographer is going to be at his house taking pictures and his mom will be taking video of it. We are jokesters and I know my fiance will be nervous, I think this will take some edge off the big day for him. And will be great pictures. The best man is very flamboyant so I know it will it will be great. My question is what time do you normally do first looks at like how soon before ceremony?

I'd talk to your photographer and see what time they usually do first looks for their clients! Some people have a first look 30min before the ceremony, an hour, it just depends on what your timeline looks like.

I love that idea though!! I've seen so many videos and photos of this, that I've actually thought about pranking my FH as well!

I love this idea! Your photographer would be the best to answer this question since they know how much time is needed for the pictures. Are you doing an actual first look and pictures after the joke? If just the joke, then I can't see more than 10 minutes or so needed after they get dressed.
We're planning on a first look from 3pm-4pm and our ceremony starts at 5pm. We have an hour in between to cool down before the ceremony (June wedding), make up touchups and so that when guests arrive they don't see us.

Your photographer will be able to assist you with timing. We did an actual first look and ours was scheduled for 3:45 before our 5:30 ceremony. We also did bridal party photos after the first look.

Our photographer helped set up a timeline of the days events with us. Get with them and it'll help things run smoother.

I have no advice on timeline, but I am SO jealous you get to do this!!

I wanted to do this so bad, one of my FH's best men is his brother and I knew he'd do this if I asked, but the venue holding my ceremony and reception doesn't allow first looks due to time constraints. I was so bummed when I read that.

I had it all planned out in my head too, my parents have 100's of wedding dresses that they sell on Ebay and I was just going to take one and stick his brother in it.

Since your venue doesn't allow it because of time, what if you did it way before the wedding starts at a different location

If I thought of this idea prior and didn't already tell FH I was thinking this then I would consider it lol. But we're also doing a 5:30 ceremony on a Friday evening, I'm planning on getting ready at the hotel we'll be staying at the night before (me and my bridesmaids who choose to stay with me) and the night of, and he'll be getting ready at his parents house so we'll be getting ready in two separate locations and I don't know our wedding day timeline yet, plus he cant stick to a schedule to save his life (and neither can 1/2 his groomsmen) and I'm type A and I can't imagine the stress I would feel to ensure he gets to a secondary location first and then still make it our ceremony in time lol
