First Look Picture Timeline

Zoe, on September 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
Happy Saturday! Those of you who are doing a first look and BP photos before the ceremony - how much time are you budgeting? We are getting to the venue at 3 and need to be done pictures (BP and FH and I) by 4:30 for the ceremony at 5. Is this enough time? What is everyone else’s timeline for a first look?

Have you talked to your photographer?

    Our ceremony is at 3
    1245-1pm - 1st look
    1-1:30 - bridal party pics

Then we’ll use remaining time (1:30-2:30) For family portraits.

Yes she said 45 minutes for BP and 45 minutes for FH and I is fine. I just don’t want to be rushed.

Photographers are (should be!) great with schedules. As long as you gave her all the info (# of people) I’m sure you’ll be fine, but if you’re worried about it, talk to her now.

Plus you'll be getting pics with FH after the ceremony, right?

Okay, well in that case I guess it depends on when you can get to the venue, how long you have the photog for, how important pics are to you, etc.
Did she give you an estimate of how many photos she’ll get per hour?
To me, and this is just because I’m a photography nerd and it’s super important to me, it sounds like a rushed timeline. But if you’re not planning on going crazy and you expressed this to your girl, I’d trust her. Or at least express your concerns.

She said we can expect about 50 pics per hour. I’m just worried because I feel like we’ve been planning for so long and then we have to jam all our portraits with just the two of us into 45 minutes. I think it was quite a bit of money to get the venue any earlier but I may look into it. Thank you!

Our ceremony is at 2. Our photographer should get to the venue at 12. We aren't doing getting ready shots other than maybe straightening ties. We will go right into the first look and wedding portraits, hoping to be back and hidden by 1:30. I think that's plenty of time and we can always grab an extra photo or two after when we're done with the family photos we want. I think you should have time, but get a shot list prepared in advance so you can get what you want and keep it moving from one to the next.

Thank you! I started freaking about the timeline too but by responding to you I began considering what we want and the time we will actually have, I think it's going to be just fine.

I had 1.5-2 hours but man it felt like such a short time. It went by fast and we had a few hiccups

    Photo TimelineAmber 2-8
2pm Steve w/tie & jacket (wait to put on for photos)
2:30pm Bride getting ready (dressed mom/Julie); dressed by this time (leave off jewelry)
2:50pm Lisa pin boutonnière on Steve
    3pm first look
    3:45pm Bridal party
    4pm immediate families, mom’s family
    4:30pm done

This was our rough timeline. We got started late on the photos. We had a first look and nearly all posed photos were taken before the ceremony with the exception of my husbands extended family on both sides and my extended family on my dads side during cocktail hour.
Our BP included 2 adults and 7 children (ages 4 to 13). I think our photos started around 2:15. We were finished before 4:30. We used less than 15 minutes during cocktail hour for the remaining extended family photos.
