First look photos?

Monique, on July 30, 2019 at 12:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 25
My fh and I are really on the fence with the concept of a first look. I would love to see photos if you are willing to share them. (I could not find a photo specific thread) We are thinking of doing a first look because we want to take pictures throughout our venue. The venue will be flipped and after the ceremony the guests are offered the chance to go through the venue to take a tour. (It has a secret passage way and a bunch of rooms due to its historic marking) I feel it would make photos so much easier without people walking all over. I also get super nervous for big things.

My FH and I had talked about it too. At first I didn't really care and then I started seeing more pictures and I'm like ok this could be cool. After discussing it with my FH, he actually expressed that he would really rather wait and be surprised seeing me for the first time as I walk down the aisle. It wasn't a deal breaker for me or anything so I'm not TOO upset about it lol. I still do think first looks are cute but definitely not mandatory. That would be a decision for you and your FH.

Awe I kind of want to do one with my dad! Can I ask how much time it took to do one with him and do you mind sharing some of those images?

We did first look photos and really enjoyed having our own intimate moment together. It was very special and didn't take anything away from when we saw each other as I walked down the aisle; we still teared up because it was a huge moment. Here are some of the photos - I love seeing both our reactions to each other.

I sobbed like a baby doing the first look with my dad! And it took about 30 minutes total for both.

I can’t remember. Probably. We never really discussed it we were just pretty natural with each other and hung out with the wedding party until it was time to line up for the ceremony.

I wanted to do them with my fiancé but he doesn’t want to because he wants a genuine reaction when I walk down the aisle. (totally okay with that); I’ll do it with my dad instead.

Yea, I would recommend a first look for you guys! We did a first look and it was one of my favorite parts of the day. We got to take in each others looks and relax with each other for a whole ~20 minutes before the wedding day flew by. Also, your hair and makeup will be in its best condition during a pre-ceremony first look, so it’s a great time to do romantic portraits together.

Plus with your venue doing the tour thing, you should get priority of location for your photos so I’d rather just do them before so you don’t have to awkwardly ask people to move along on their tour or have guests watching you guys pose. We did a second round of couple portraits later in the evening (during dinner) and had some guests come out to watch and take their own pics... that was SO awkward to me!

I don't have my pro pictures back yet since we were just married 3 weeks ago, but we did a first look because our location made an isle walk very difficult and we wanted a moment for us, and a moment with our daughters. I'm really glad it's what we did! It was so special and so full of raw emotions. Here are some pictures some of our family took at the end of our first look when guests began arriving. I can't wait to see the pro set.

My FH and I were also on the fence about first look photos. But since our ceremony is at 5:30pm in November, it will be dark by the time to take photos so we will be doing a first look. Also, after hearing all of my friends gush about their first look and the photos that came from it, as well as since it was one of the only times it was JUST you two for the day, I caved (:

My fiance and I decided against the first look. We both want to wait and the first time we see each other to be when I'm walking down the isle. I am concerned about pictures taking up alot of my reception time because we only get 4 hours total from beginning of ceremony to end of reception. So, my Photographer suggested I do all my pictures without the groom before the ceremony, that way we can save on time!!

Awwww, thank you. We had him wait at the top and I walked up to him and tapped his shoulder. We had our moment with pictures, love, and kisses, then some of our family walked the girls up to join us which is also about the time most of the guests began arriving so they could observe us having a moment with our girls from a distance. I think it all turned out perfectly.

We did one because logistically it was just a lot better for our schedule to get photos done first

We decided about a week before the wedding that we were going to do a first look so we scrambled for a location where we wouldn’t be seen by our guests and that was tough since is was a destination wedding and we were all in the same hotel but I loved his reaction. Here are a few photos leading up to it.

I loved our first look. The photo schedule was secondary to me...I wanted time alone with hubby, to hug him and get his reaction in person. The aisle was still emotional, but between trying not to cry myself, and not trip as I walked down the aisle, I barely registered his reaction there, and didn't realize until I saw the photos that he was trying not to cry too.
