First Look -- How much time Before?

Mrs. Gravely, on January 9, 2014 at 8:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

How much time did you give yourselves for your "First Look"? Did you schedule it an hour before the ceremony started? 45 min :: 30 min?

Agree, good question - what about first look, then photos, then the ceremony? How much time would be needed then?

I asked our photographer about photo time she needs me to let her know what photos I want to take before the ceremony

    This was our timeline:

1:45- Groom comes down and gets ready for 1st

2:00- 1st look (location TBD), then J&B photos

2:45- Bridal party joins for photos

    4:15- photos over, freshen up

    4:45- dj begins pre-ceremony music

    5:00- Processional

We probably did an hour of just us. We also did some family shots after the bridal party.

Make sure you leave time in between when your first look ends and the ceremony starts. You don't want to be out while your guests arrive. We have an hour for photos scheduled and 30 minutes in between photos and ceremony

CeCe - Thanks for the tip. I definitely want to make sure I'm back inside before guests arrive because the area is kind of tight and people would see me if I was out walking around.

I think we did ours about an hour or a little over an hour before the ceremony started. We did the first look and that gave us time to take some formal pictures with family and the bridal party, that way we got a lot of the formals out of the way and we wouldn't spend all of cocktail hour taking pictures. We stopped taking pictures about 25 minutes before the ceremony started so that everyone had time to settle down.

I'm pretty comfortable with my timeline... but, who knows, it may change!

1:45: hair and makeup needs to be completed for bride

1:45-2:15: getting dressed; for bride and groom

2:00 groom needs to be ready

    2:15 First look/reveal

2:30 Bridal/Groom portraits; friends done with hair and makeup

3:00 Family done with hair and makeup

    3:30 PM friends

    4 PM Family portraits

5 PM cocktails on the rooftop

    5:30 Ketubah

    6 PM ceremony

We did our first look in about 15 min which when our photographer mentioned it I thought it wasn't enough time, but it definitely was.

My photographer wants to start family photos an hour before I have to hide from guests which means that first look is minimum of an hour and a half prior
