First Full Melt Down

Alexis Hosley, on May 13, 2019 at 3:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
Well, just had my first full melt down about our wedding..
Our DJ (aka My Cousin) just told me he only planned on playing music for our reception but nothing for the ceremony... Now what? It's going to be quiet as the guest seat themselves, as we walk up the isle. We wont be announced as Mr. & Mrs. Help Smiley sad

Why wouldn’t your officiant announce you? That’s never been the DJs job at any ceremony I’ve attended. Also, couldn’t you just ask him to also play at the ceremony? Are you paying him? Does he have a smaller set up he could use for the ceremony?

I agree with Sarah, I would ask him to do music at the ceremony too and normally the officiant announces you. If your cousin can't do it look at using speakers at the venue with some music off of a phone or look at hiring live musicians for the ceremony.

I'm confused as to why this would cause you to have a melt down. The DJ doesn't announce you as Mr. and Mrs. at the ceremony - your officiant does. As for music for the ceremony - you have options and more than a year to decide. Hire your cousin to take care of it for the ceremony (though friendors are rarely a good option), hire a professional DJ to take care of all your music and sound needs, hire live musicians, play music through your phone, etc.

We hired students from our local college’s music department to play during the ceremony

On the bright side you’re getting married June 2020 not in 3 weeks, so you have a whole year to find another dj or a ceremony musician! No need to have a meltdown over this, I feel confident you can figure something out between now and then! Good luck!

I'm sorry this frustrated you, I understand thinking things are going one way and then finding out that's not the case. As far as I know DJ's don't announce the couple, I think you need to have a conversation and tell him what your vision is. It doesn't sound like that's been put on the table in totality. DJ's usually play music and announce the couple during the reception. This can be fixed it just has to be talked out.

We decided to hire a DJ that did our friends wedding. Even though he lives 3 hours away, he is making the travel and we are paying for his hotel room & inviting his family!
