First Dress Fitting....What do I bring?!

Sarah, on July 30, 2015 at 2:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I am clueless about the dress fitting/alterations and I honestly have no idea what to expect. My first fitting is this coming monday (8/1) and I only have my shoes. My biggest concern is really about finding the right bra for under my dress. I typically wear a 36DD so being that I chose a strapless dress, I'm pretty nervous about how the "ladies" are going to hold up, I want to lock them in place. Does anyone have suggestions???

Also an extra question, did anyone buy an A-line dress and have it altered to hug your hips a bit more like a Fit N Flare?? I'm thinking about asking is thats possible since I loved the way my body looked in that shape but couldn't help but fall in love with the other dress.

I appreciate any advice!!

Bring whatever undergarments you plan to wear day of wedding(spanx/certain bra) as well as the shoes as that will make a difference with length. You could also bring veil, jewelry.

eta: My dress is pretty much straight down and form fitting but she is taking it in in chest.waist to more so "hug my curves" so Im sure if you have a great alterations person, they can help ya.

You need the bra you plan on wearing for wedding day at your fitting. Along with your shoes and veil.

EVERYTHING. You really need to have your bra. I am very top heavy too. 40DDD so I get what you mean. Go to a specialty bra shop if you have one, they are great at getting you an amazing fitting bra. I have a strapless too and I am going to get a bustier so that I feel more secure. I tried on one at a plus size bridal store that had vents in the side so you are not as hot. I will more then likely go get that one because my dress is a huge ballgown and hot already. Bring your shoes, your veil, any undergarments, belt (if you have one) and your jewelry if you want to see the complete look all together.

Don't mean to hijack your post but I'm also going for my first fitting soon and was wondering, for those of you who are smaller chested did you wear a bra?

Thanks all for the advice!! I feel like I should know all this but I think it only clicked within the last 24hrs that the first fitting is just days away and my brain is in "AHHH" mode. I'm going to be going out this weekend to a few places and I'm thinking I should pick up a strapless bra AND a bustier????I like the idea of the bustier most, no strapless bra has ever been supportive enough.

Also, did anyone not have their jewelry or accessories for the first fitting? I bought the dress in November and I've been going off the few bad pictures or the designers photograph and I just haven't been able to commit to any jewelry cause I'm afraid it wouldn't match. Personally I'm hoping I will see the dress on and gain a better idea of what I have picked out online that would match. Then hopefully purchase and have for the following fittings.

I brought 3 different kinds of undergarments because I wasn't sure which spanx would work and if I needed a bra or not so I would bring whatever you think you may wear.

I didn't bring jewelry until the later fittings because I added straps, and had my veil made, and I didn't want to be stuck with things that didn't match in the end.

I also brought a little mini robe thing with me too, although after the first fitting I learned you don't get to be shy anymore, and they've seen it all!

You just need to bring what you're wearing under the dress. If you're not sure, bring a couple options and talk with the seamstress about it. They can also pin and unpin to see what it would really look like. You also need shoes so they get the length right. If you're committing to flats or 2" any shoes work, as long as you'll be the same height. Veil and jewelry is bonus.

So I have my 2nd fitting on 8/1 and I totally had to just check the calendar haha Anyway, what did they tell you to bring? I brought my shoes and a strapless bra, but the seamstress had better shapewear there, so I will be buying that.

Hi Elyse! So far the salon hasn't told me to bring anything, maybe they will in a phone call this weekend when confirming the appointment for monday. At this point I think I'm going to go with at least 2 options for bra/bustiers, definitely some shape wear, and my shoes. Guess I'll see what happens!

@Lindsey, I am smaller chested and did not bring a bra to my fitting. Seamstress said to wait until the alterations (First round) were finished, then we could decide how much push or "umph" I needed for a bra/chicken cutlets.
