First Dress Appointment

Paige, on September 25, 2019 at 2:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
I just made my first appointment to go look at dresses! My mom lives 10 hours away so I am going with a friend and my grandma. I am just going to get an idea of what I like, so when my mom comes to visit I can actually pick one! What tips do you have? What was your budget (is $500 reasonable)? What do I wear as far as underwear? Anything I should remember?

I had a budget of $2,000. I called the salons prior to make sure that was an okay budget, that was helpful for sure. I'd wear nude seamless underwear (thong probably) and a nude bra or pasties. Pasties will be easier, almost no wedding dresses allow for bras. I would bring a water bottle, you'll be tired! Maybe plan to eat before with your friend & grandma, wedding dress shopping is exhausting! Try on any & all dresses you can, even if you don't think you'll like them. Since it's your first time going, you'll want to try on all shapes & fabrics & necklines, etc. Take a lot of pictures so you can reflect later too.

Agreeing with PP. My budget was $2500 and I was still saw several dresses that were over my budget that I would have loved to have tried on. So you may want to check with the salon you have an appointment with to make sure they have dresses within your budget. Definitely wear a nude colored thong, and I actually took my bra off when I got there and didn't wear one at all while try dresses on. Most dresses have boning or some type of built in cups. And as PP said, try on every silhouette, fabric, and color; because you will be surprised what you will like and not like.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!! Wedding dress shopping can be exhausting, so make sure to bring and drink lots of water.

If the salon has a website, I would go there ahead of your appointment, and "favorite" some particular dresses you want to try on. This will save time at the appointment. Also, be open to trying on different styles, because you never know what's going to look good until you get them on.

Finally, for my shopping I didn't think of wearing any special underwear or bra, so just had my regular everyday stuff on. They gave me a strapless bustier to try on the dresses, which was totally cool. So, even if you show up without the "right" undergarments, it shouldn't be a big deal.

I went to David's bridal and had a $500 Max budget. There were a lot of options. I would wear nude underwear just to get a more seamless look. I didn't wear a bra when I tried on dresses, but I was going for a strapless dress. If you have a good pair of heels bring them too so you can get an idea of length.
