Hello everyone, I recently had my grandpa pass away so he will not be able to physically be at our wedding and I wanted to play a song at our wedding that he always liked. He loved the song don’t know much by Linda Ronstadt and I was wondering if that would be a good first dance song it’s a good slow romantic song. However I don’t want everyone to be sad and emotional knowing that’s his song. If anyone could give me their input it would be much appreciated thank you!

Usually the first dance is something that you and your fiance choose together that fits your relationship. The other song is beautiful but might fit better at a different spot in the wedding.

Typically, the first dance song is something that symbolizes your relationship with your fiance so I wouldn't pick this song for your first dance. I would have your DJ play it later in the evening.

I would separate his song from your first dance song. We are playing a song for our grandparents as well and we are just doing it later in the night and the dj is going to announce that it’s a dedication to them. It can still be special without taking away from your first dance, which is supposed to be more joyful and about you as a couple.

Thank you everyone. I thought it was a romantic song and so did my fiancé and we thought that before my grandpa past away. That’s why we were sure what to do about the song.

So sorry for your loss. I would choose a first dance song that is significant to you and your FS, not your grandfather. Maybe you could find a more appropriate way to incorporate that song like the processional.
