First dance

My FH and I are not the best dancers and I don’t want to just stand there and sway like we’re in middle school..I found this basic slow dance on YouTube but I’m not sure if it’s go with our first dance song! We’re dancing to Savage Garden-I Knew I Loved You
Here’s the dance steps I found:

I couldn’t get the link to work but here are my thoughts… You can still do a simple slow dance without it looking like a middle schooler. Also, if you don’t know how to dance and you’re going to try a choreographed dance, it will be even MORE obvious and awkward looking.

Ok. I got the video to load. Yes, that looks simple enough. I think the keys to not looking like middle schooler is to dance close to one another without distance between you two and not to be stiff in your movements.

I just feel like it’s awkward having everyone stare at you hugging each other and swaying for 4 mins!

Lots of couples don't dance to the full song because 4 minutes is a long time for you, and for your guests. It's very common to talk to your DJ in advance and have them fade out the song at a point that makes sense. We are fading out at 2:20 and even that feels pretty long.

You can cut the song in half, to avoid awkwardness. There's no rule that says you have to dance to the entire song. So, listen to it, and see if there's a good place to break halfway through. Then, if you want, you can have your DJ open the dance floor to everyone at that halfway point. When others join the dance floor, it suddenly gets a lot less awkward.

Oh!!! That’s the other part… A first dance doesn’t have to be an entire song. You can dance together for like a minute and then the DJ can fade the music off. Even though we enjoy dancing, we don’t plan to dance for 4 minutes. That’s even horrible for guests to endure. Lol!!!
