First dance.....to waltz or not to waltz? That is the question!

We are dancing to A Thousand Years. Should we take waltz lessons or just do the sway?

We did the sway lol. If you want to waltz I say go for it!! Or you can have your DJ play some ballroom dancing music in the middle of the reception.

If you just want to do a really basic waltz, you can go on YouTube and check out tutorials.

Groupon has options for local intro lessons you can look into. That's how FH and I started, and we continued past the two intros we got. Going on eight months now. Our instructor is choreographing our dance, a fox trot into tango mix (not to toot my own horn, but we have a beautiful Argentine tango).

    1. It's fun 2. It's a good date night and 3. It'll impress your guests! Smiley smile

My FBIL took lessons and were choreographed and it looked so stiff and insincere it was painful to watch. So if you do lessons, make sure you can relax

We settled on waltz... He wanted to skip the first dance all together but...

He knew what he was getting into by marrying a dancer lol

Just to be clear, there is a huge difference between knowing how to waltz and having a choreographed dance...

    I love to two-step, so

FH and I are going to pick a song to two-step to. However, it won't be choreographed. It's just a simple step pattern (plus some fun tricks because I already know them). I think a waltz is clean and beautiful and it won't look stiff because it's just a step pattern.

I have always dreamed of waltzing at my wedding (I taught ballroom in college). My husband was so awesome and learned to waltz for me. I haven't seen the video so we may have looked stiff but he did it for me and that's all that matters now.

We are taking lessons and the instructor taught us different moves to put together but our dance isn't choreographed. As @FlightyFlutist said, there's a difference between knowing how to do a specific dance and doing a choreographed dance. If your song has a waltz beat, you'd look great actually waltzing--it's so graceful looking.

We will be taking classes but not a choreography. We just need FH to get comfortable on the dance floor, sober.

We took a few lessons to learn the waltz, and we had so much fun. Dance lessons are actually a great date night thing to do together. We didn't do anything highly choreographed...just the basic step, a couple of turns, and a dip at the end. I don't know if we looked "stiff," but our guests enjoyed it.
