First dance tips

Lisa, on July 22, 2018 at 5:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Any good advice/tips for first dances as the bride and groom, other than to practice? Lessons are out of the question for us as they extremely expensive and quite a distance away from where we live.

FH and I are going to practice in our living room since we can't fit lessons into our budget, either. I've found some decent tutorials for simple steps on Youtube, and we are also only dancing for about 2.5 minutes of the song since I'm nervous to dance in front of everyone and some first dances just seem to drag on at weddings we've been to.

We are freestyling our dance... the first song is a slower song and the second song is more upbeat and the wedding party will join us on the dance floor. A 2-step will be good enough.

We literally practiced in our kitchen. At one point we did a fun spin/dip and my uncle asked us how long we practiced that. I half jokingly responded "every night in the kitchen" but really we did practice but not every night.

We have been practicing in our living room as well with like a box step. We’ve been practicing the twirls and the dips lol. It’s funny, should anyone walk by and see what we are doing

As a former wedding dance teacher, the lessons are for the most part a huge waste of money anyway. I would say just practice a spin and a dip and free style it to your song. Youtube can be a great resource on a few steps if you are interested in anything specific.
