First dance song

Brittney Elaine, on October 12, 2016 at 10:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 28

Hey y'all. New here, but I am seriously so stuck on ideas for a first dance song. We really don't have "a song", but I feel like once I hear something then I'll know.

We love country/alternative/folk/bluegrass type music. The most mainstream I can think of would be like Chris Stapleton..

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance Smiley smile

Ours is We Danced because that's the song we got engaged to. But there's also In Case You Didn't Know, Better Together, I'll still be loving you,Cross my heart, It's Your Love, A Thousand Years, I don't want to miss a thing, Amazed, (Everything I do) I do it for you, Because you loved me, I love the way you love me, In the air tonight, I do (cherish you), I could not ask for more...a lot more choices!

I think we have narrowed it down to either when I said I do- Clint black or god blessed the broken road- rascal flatts.

I have gotten feed back from some people who don't think I should play rascal flatts, but I feel that the song explains our whole relationship.

Have you heard of City and Colour? I'd classify him as folkish/indieish. We are dancing to "We Found Each Other in the Dark". We also know a couple who danced to "The Girl" by him as well. Good luck!

We picked "Stuck on You" by Meiko because his last name is Stuck. It's a cute song too.

@Morgan, are you talking about "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins? You know that isn't a love song, right?

    From Wiki:

"Collins wrote the song about the anger he felt after divorcing his first wife, Andrea, in 1979. In a 2016 interview, Phil Collins said of the song's lyrics: "I wrote the lyrics spontaneously. I'm not quite sure what the song is about, but there's a lot of anger, a lot of despair and a lot of frustration."[8] In a 1997 BBC Radio 2 documentary, the singer revealed that the divorce contributed to his 1979 hiatus from Genesis until the band regrouped in October of that year to record the album Duke.

The lyrics of the song take the form of a dark monologue directed towards an unnamed person:

"Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand

I've seen your face before, my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am

Well I was there and I saw what you did

I saw it with my own two eyes

So you can wipe off that grin

    I know where you've been

It's all been a pack of lies""

@DT I missed them on tour here last year. Super pissed. But it's OK because I saw Reckless Kelly play at our local country dive bar this year and that was super fun.

We danced to the acoustic version of "Everlong" by The Foo Fighters. I really wanted "I'd Never Tell" by Nicolas Brandon and Emma Caulfield but FH (whoops DH not FH, still getting the hang of that) vetoed it.

Based on what music you say you like you might want to consider Alison Krauss' version of When You Say Nothing at All. Amazing, sweet, one of my faves! I'm actually planning to dance with my dad to this song. https://youtu.be/1SCOimBo5tg

@DT North Idaho, previously Denver, previously central WA ... I discovered Reckless Kelly about 15 years ago and that got me into the alt country genre. I listen to radio country sometimes but it gets old fast.

    How about:

    Sons of Bill?

    Casey Donahew?

    Fifth on the Floor?

    Whiskey & Co?

We don't have a "song" persay and our music taste is very different. However, we have agreed to have "stand by me" be our song. FHs mom passed away almost 20 years ago and that was his parents song. The lyrics are true for us as well. I figured it would be an amazing way to include her even though she won't physically be with us on our wedding day.
