First Dance Song Editting

Samantha, on November 19, 2020 at 10:10 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

Hi Everyone,

I have a song I LOVE and want to be our first dance song. The issue is that it is 4.5 minutes long and we want it shorter. Ideally I would like it to be the first verse and chorus and the third verse and chorus, cutting out the second verse and chorus. The DJ's we've talked to said they aren't able to do this, which completely makes sense. What I'm wondering is if there is a way for me to do this myself and then give them the edited version to play. Has anyone done anything like this or know how to do it?

FH says it isn't possible at all due to copyright laws. Which I'm not sure is true. so I'm just looking to see if anyone else has done this.

We did not edit our first dance song, we just told the DJ when to start and stop it. He had no problem with that.

I agree with this. Start and stop options.

If you have the time you can actually edit it yourself using quick time pro. on a computer. you have to edit it by cropping out the sections you don't want in it, and timing it right so it doesn't sound too choppy... otherwise i would tell the dj the time stamps to stop and play at.

There’s a free sound editing program called Audacity. Very easy to use; you just cut out the section you don’t want, then run the first and last sections together. It can be a bit fiddly to get it exactly right but it can be done. Copyright has nothing to do with cutting a verse and chorus out of a song - your FH is wrong on that one!

I'm baffled that the DJ can't do that. Our DJ edited multiple songs for us so that they were better lengths/fits for our needs.

Did they give a reason why?
