First Dance Song Dilemma

Bailey, on September 20, 2020 at 10:06 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

Hi all! I am trying to decide on our first dance song... I love Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do" and had no idea it was from Fifty Shades of Grey when I first heard it. Would it be inappropriate to use as a first dance song?? Also considering Chris Stapleton's version of "Tennessee Whiskey." My fiance likes that one better, but I think he just vetoed the Ellie Goulding song because he knew it was from that movie... in my opinion both are romantic songs. Thoughts??

Tennessee whiskey is a great first dance song! Honestly I don’t think everyone is gonna know that Ellie Goulding song is from 50 shades of grey aha

I had no idea the Ellie Goulding song was in 50 shades either, but I do think you and your FH should make the decision together. If he prefers Tennessee Whiskey and you like it too, I’d go with that.

If you love the song then use it. Most people don't pay that much attention to the fact it was part of a specific soundtrack, nor do they care. Your guests will not be analyzing any lyrics or anything else.

Technically the song was around before the movie. It’s just well known for that movie. Idk if that should count as ruining the song in my opinion.

I don’t think anyone will associate the song with the movie. Especially your older guests. Pick whichever song you like best and go with it!

Thank you all! I think we will make the decision together based on the song and not worry if it was in 50 shades. Might go with Tennessee Whiskey and have the other one played later in the night so we can still dance to it, but I will just talk to my FH about it.
