First Dance Song Choices

Our first dance will be Russell Dickerson’s “Yours” because it’s actually our song. But god every time I hear Dan & Shay’s “Speechless” I can imagine us dancing to that too...that’s a good one!!

You’re not alone. We can’t decide on one neither. Fh picked one, and I love the song, but it was a friend of mine, who’s Wedding we attended, first dance song as well. I know I know, I’m weird like that 🤦🏾‍♀️

I would put this decision on hold for a while. A song could come out between now and your wedding that you love!

Hey Brittany! I love both the song choices you are so far, especially "Speechless"!! Agreeing with Kelly, maybe taking a step back from this decision and coming back to it later may make it easier to choose! You never know if another song will come out that you both fall in love with!

We are also considering Speechless! The music video makes me tear up every time.

You do have some time to choose. We were all over the place and really struggled with this decision as well. We had several up for discussion, including "Something" by The Beatles, "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos, "Amazed" by Lonestar. We ended up going with something really obscure, the cover of Elvis's "Wonder of You" by The Villagers. It was in the show "Big Little Lies" and we both really just like the simplicity of it.

Out of these 2 I would vote for The Rest of Our Life. My FH actually wanted to use Speechless, but I feel like the lyrics for Speechless are very specifically from the perspective of a man, about a woman. He gets all lovey at me when he hears it haha, but it’s hard for me to relate to the lyrics thinking about him (“staring at you standing there in that dress”? Lol). It’s a beautiful song but for the first dance I wanted a song that had lyrics that could be relatable from both our perspectives. Something like The Rest of Our Life is perfect

I don't know "Speechless" but I think "Rest of Our Life" would also be a great LAST DANCE song. Is that a compromise he'd be willing to make?

First dance is a big deal! We’re doing the acoustic version of “perfect” by ed sheeran. Its over used but its still our song & special to us! When it came out before everyone started using it at weddings we agreed that would be our first dance song

I'd recommend giving it some time to think about it together. Which of the two songs do you see having more fun dancing to? For the song that doesn't get chosen maybe that could be played at another point in your wedding too, like entrance/exit music, or an anniversary dance, used in a video compilation/slideshow, or something else.

Our first dance song was Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer. It was magical

I get goosebumps every time I hear "Speechless".. seriously my favorite right now. Because of that, I plan to walk down the aisle to it. I want to do an older song for our first dance, so it doesn't feel like every other couple who gets married in the next few years uses the same one.

Why not have both? Talk to your DJ about merging one song into the next. My FH and I are doing that. We dated originally in 1985, so we're playing a love song from that year, merging into one that's current day.
