First Dance - Performed live or track?

Lauren, on August 7, 2019 at 11:41 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

We're having a solo musician for our ceremony/cocktail hour/dinner reception. For the ceremony, he's just doing guitar instrumental for the processional/recessional. Cocktail hour he'll play/sing.

Our first dance song has a wedding version on Spotify and I just LOVE it. We can give our musician our song choice and he can learn it, but is it rude to have the original track played instead of him singing? Or should we have him learn it and sing it? I'm just worried it won't sound as close to the song as I'd like. And not sure if it's weird that he'd be singing for the cocktail hour and dinner music, but not for the first dance?

Thoughts?

I don't think that's rude to have original track played. My friend had a musician but he played the original track he wanted rather than had the musicians sing it during the first dance. He just had the musicians perform during the reception.

I don’t think it’s rude at all not to have him sing it. Every voice doesn’t suit every song, and that’s okay. Carrie Underwood has a beautiful voice, but I don’t want to hear her cover of a Drake song. Ya know?

I’m a musician and I would be zero percent offended for someone to have a track played. It’s just a break for me and less pressure.

As PPs said, it's totally fine to play a track! You're being super sweet and considerate, so kudos to you!
