First Dance/ Parent Dances

Rima, on September 7, 2014 at 11:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Hi all! So neither me or my groom are too comfortable with the first dance. Our solution was to dance by ourselves for about a minute and a half and then have the DJ invite others to join us on the dance floor. Then we were also going to combine the father/daughter and mother/groom dances into one (my groom really didn't want to do a solo mother dance and I am fine with it also). So what would be the best way to handle that since the father/daughter-mother/groom dance is typically right after our first dance? Should we just do the parent dances with other people on the dance floor? Or how would that work? Any advice? Thanks!!!

If you're going to do the mother/son and father/daughter dance immediately after the first dance, the transition will be difficult with your guests on the floor. I suggest, doing the first dance then inviting guests to join in to the end of the song. The mother/son and father/daughter dance can be done together maybe 10 minutes after the first dance.

What about transitioning from the first dance to the parent dance on the same song, then call it done and everyone can dance. You might also look for short songs. We're using Sweet Pea for our first dance and it's only 2 1/2 minutes long.

My fiancé does not want to do the mother son dance either. We will do bride groom dance then father daughter dance. I am trying to get him to do mother son dance. His mother wants to do it. and everyone will join bride groom dance.

We are doing the same thing, so great question! I like @Karen's suggestion...maybe see if the DJ can mash the songs together and have the father come cut in and the groom go to his mom?

My parents are forbidding any dancing at all at the reception. Is that a common occurrence, or are we alone in this?
