First dance during cocktail hour

PermaGrin, on May 24, 2022 at 11:48 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

Hello,

We are having a guitarist for the ceremony and cocktail hour prior to the DJ taking over after cocktail hour. We are doing a first look so we can attend cocktail hour.
I would love to have our first dance at the end of cocktail hour when the guitarist is there to play for us (last song!).

The cocktail hour/ dance floor and dinner are all in one location - so I was hoping at the end of cocktail hour we could announce the bride and grooms first dance. we wouldn't do parent/child dances until later in the evening. Would that seem disjointed doing the first dance well in advance of dance floor opening and parent dances?

Do whatever works for you. Some couples have the dance as soon as the reception starts and others do it when dinner is over. There is no right or wrong.

Seems fine to me! It'd probably also get people to their seats quicker too.

Since it's in the same room, it makes total sense! The first dance with the guitarist sounds a lot more romantic.

Oh good -point ... that might help start the food service on time too since we are having a shorter reception (only 4:30-9)

A day away - oh my congrats! I am sure your day will be wonderful - I looked forward to seeing your follow up pics!!!Smiley love

The timeline does make me nervous - i figured we need the Dj to help with keeping the timeline flowing and announcing what is happening. I am so thankful we live in the day of google

We’ll be having everyone seated right after cocktail hour, announcing entrances and then we’ll do our first dance. After will be dinner and then parent dances after. I think it’s fine to do it the way you are planning

One of the things we are doing to keep the timeline going is that we are not relying on the DJ solely but have a MC who is one of my friends. She is a entertainer and knows how to not only keep things moving but has games planned such as the Newlywed game during cocktail hour and other little activities. . We spent a lot of time on the timeline to make sure that the evening fluid without huge gaps of time where guest will be bored. If anything they will be entertained and surprised at some of the non traditional nuances we have added.

I like that way you are doing it - my brother did that and it worked well. esepcailly when you have the bridal party announcements

I am not doing announcements because I want to join cocktail hour (since it is in my backyard I kinda want to attend it all!) so I am now thinking we will do :

at 50 minutes into cocktail hour ask guests to take their seat while the new Mr. and Mrs. take the dancefloor.

Then we will do parent dances after dinner as well!

We’re doing a first look as well to try and join cocktail hour but we still want the announcement lol. But also I don’t know how much we’ll be able to join the cocktail hour. Our photographer might want extra photos
