First dance during cocktail hour

Aqualeo, on March 14, 2017 at 9:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Is it weird? Our ceremony & reception is all at the same place. We are doing a first look & pics before ceremony then maybe a few minutes after ceremony. We will then join our guests at cocktail hour so I guess that's when we would be announced and go into first dance. We then have an acapella group for the cocktail hour. Do you think this is an ok plan?

Aw damn I knew it lol. What should we do then? Just have them announce us while we're already in the room & then dance?

Usually you can mingle with guests for a little then when it's time to be announced, you go back into another room and then come through the doors.

I love the idea of an acapella group, but no, you do your first dance when the reception starts.

We are doing exactly what you outlined. I know it's a bit untraditional...but it works for our timeline so we are going with it. Do what works for you!

I think a little awkward -- first dance at reception

It seems a little weird to me to leave the room and be announced back in a few minutes later though. Maybe we should just be announced to the dance floor.

ETA our cocktail hour & reception are in the same room.

I just went to a wedding last Saturday where we did this. No one thought it was weird and it seemed pretty fluid. The couple and bridal party did pictures while all the guests went to the reception area for passed appetizers and drinks and found their tables, mingled for a while. Then the bridal party was introduced, then the couple, and the couple went directly into their first dance while everyone was already standing up clapping for the entrances. Then everyone was seated for dinner
