First Dance: Dancing Lessons

Jennifer, on September 17, 2022 at 3:34 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
My fiancé and I have been going to dance lessons for the past 2 months now. I think my favorite thing about this whole process is how we’ve grown together the last 2 months. The first few sessions, our instructor taught my fiancé how to lead and taught me how to just “let it go” and stop being so damn controlling about everything lol. He takes a video of us towards the end of session and watching thru all the videos, it makes me really happy how much progress we’ve made. Even if we don’t get the choreography 100% right on the big day… heck even if we just completely blank out and end up doing the “Middle School Sway” the whole time, I am so glad we took the lessons. Definitely money well spent and we will probably continue to do dance date nights going forward Smiley smile But, also the choreography definitely adds a lot of “Wow!” factor and can’t wait to perform in front of all our guests Smiley smile

That's great. Some have made the lessons part of date night. We are planning to learn some dance and probably a choreographed one. But once you know some basics, you can make it work. Also, it does help if the dance is more interesting to the guests but not having to be really obvious.

Oh ours is very obvious and I love it! The beginning is just a simple waltz, which doesn’t look obvious, but as the song builds up, we start to transition into a swing, then at the climax of the song, I literally hang on him and spins around in circles, then we finally end with a classic dip. I love the drama of it all 🤣

Sounds great. How long is it? Did you get a special mix of songs prepared?

We are dancing to Lee Brice’s “I Don’t Dance” and it’s about 2.5 min long and it’s honestly the perfect song for my fiancé and I. He literally haD (past tense!) two left feet, but somehow our instructor has done the impossible and made a dancing man out of him LOL!!!

Great. I figured some instructors have figured out dances for guys with two left feet. The length sounds perfect. And Funny to do that dance to "I don't dance." Hoping the best.

I agree. Dance lessons brought us closer. We took 3 hour long lessons and practiced a bunch. I was nervous going into the performance not to make a mistake as it will live forever.

My husband and I took dancing lessons before our wedding, and it was so fun! A great idea for a date night, and I felt more confident about our first dance afterwards. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the dance lessons!

I added a youtube link recently via the WW webpages (not the App). It shows up with the video name but operates fully as a link.

We just had our first lesson this past weekend! It was SO fun, and I can't wait to add more to the dance and see it all come together!!! FH is a really good dancer when he's just winging it, so he caught on pretty quickly to the steps. He actually suggested taking lessons after the wedding was over and making it a regular thing. Growing up, it was always my DREAM to take ballroom dance classes with a partner, so he definitely cemented his place as my favorite person ever lol.

It is so much fun! I've always loved to dance, but my FH isn't much of a dancer AT ALL. I would have been totally satisfied with him just going up there and swaying back and forth, but it was HIS idea to take dance lessons AND HE came up with the song. I was so pleasantly surprised and happy. I'll definitely share our first dance video here! Our instructor is super extra and apparently has a lot of faith in us because he has my FH spinning me around in the air. Must not drink too much before the dance lol.
