First Dance Concern!!!!!

Natalie, on August 21, 2017 at 8:23 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Okay. So I honestly don't want a first dance. We're planning a less traditional wedding. However , my Fiancé has informed he wants a first dance. Now we're both huge Guns N' Roses fans and he thought it would be great to dance to Patience. I do love the song but I really don't know how anyone else will feel about it haha. Is it not "wedding" like? I really have no argument since I don't want a first dance he goes "well it shouldn't matter what song I pick then if u don't even want one". Which is true. Ughhhhh. Any thoughts? Is it completely ridiculous?

I think if the song is meaningful enough to the two of you, it doesn't matter if other people find it "wedding like" That being said, if you're not comfortable having a first dance you two need to actually figure that out and get on the same page about having one/not having one. Why don't you want a first dance?

First off, it's a day for you and your fiancé. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of the song because they're not the ones getting married! If you like the idea of having your first dance to Patience, then totally do it! If you're against a first dance at all, then it might be good to express your specific concerns with your fiancé, and hopefully he'll understand amd come around.

Hey, I don't think it matters! Our first dance song will be Thank You by Led Zeppelin. We are classic rock fans and would never have just picked a song that didn't mean anything to us because it was a "wedding song" or more danceable. I'm thinking we'll just have our DJ play a slower portion of the song which will also keep it short and sweet for us awkward non-dancers.

I wanted November Rain so badly, we are big GnR fans and got to see them last summer. November Rain is both of our favorite song by them. FH told me as much as he loves that song it isn't the best for a first dance. I disagree, I don't think you need some sappy love song for a first dance, but a song you both mutually love and has some sort of meaning to the both of you. Luckily he agreed to have it played at some point in the reception and we picked another song for our first dance.

I originally did don't want to do a first dance because I don't like having everyone staring me down, but I told FH if we can agree on a song we both love then I will do it since that was the one thing he wanted.

This is one area of the wedding where guest comfort/input means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of. Things.

Pick a song you both love. It can be fast, slow, country rock, hell it can be a metal song if you want it to be. The first dance is supposed to represent you 2 as a couple so it should be meaningful to you.

It's your first dance, pick a song that you like!! If a guest doesn't like it, who cares? They can sit through a song they don't like for a couple minutes.
