First Bridal Appointment Tips!

Hannah, on September 19, 2017 at 5:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

My first bridal appointment is this upcoming Saturday, the 23rd! I'm oh so excited, but want to make sure the appointment goes smoothly & I truly get to enjoy it - does anyone have any tips besides the typical "wear nude underwear" or on who to bring with you? I've got those two sorted out, haha.

My advice is at your first appointment try on every style that way you can narrow it down. (at least that is what worked for me).. I had ideas on what I wanted but at the first appointment I really tried on different styles and fabric so I could narrow it down to what I was looking for. I was given that advice from others and glad that I followed that.I would also say give a dress a chance even if it doesn't look good on the hanger, you would be amazed how differently it could look on you. I would also be really open with the sales associate! They do it for a living and should be good at their jobs! lol so tell them what you like and dislike about dresses because they most likely will pull other dresses based on what you are telling them. My last comment, is that the time will fly! at least for my first appointment, it was 1.5 hours and I felt like I didn't get to try on nearly enough dresses, that could be a good thing because I do think there is such a thing as trying on too many dresses at one appointment (they all start to blend together).

Be open about your budget from the get go. Be willing to try on at least a couple things outside your comfort zone or that are different from what you think you like/don't like (for example, I swore no lace but ended up with a lace gown that I love), but do watch what your stylist continues to pull. If she is getting off track, tell her.

Try not to get too overwhelmed! Tell the stylist general things that you like and they will try to pull things that are similar to what you want. I wouldn't try on anything that is over your budget, you can find plenty of wonderful dresses within your budget. Be open to trying on different styles, because if worst comes to worst, you will confirm what you don't like and won't waste your time later! Lastly, especially with the dresses you really like, take videos and not just pictures. Pictures don't always do the dress justice, videos are so much better for remembering how they look and feel and flow!

One thing I didn't make clear at first was my all in budget. I spent more that I initially wanted because I told her a budget and my consultant thought that was just for the dress- not accessories and alterations. I'm overall really happy with everything but wish I would have thought about having the accessories and alterations into that number I originally told her.

Don't forget about taxes, alterations, etc in your cost! My dress was 1700 but with everything added it came out to be 2,200 smh... I thought I was getting a deal because they said alterations were included in that total, but after looking at my receipt it said it was only for basic alterations. So ask questions and read fine print! Also, enjoy it!! Smiley smile
