Fired my hair/makeup artist - Feeling really bad :(

Private User, on February 25, 2014 at 10:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Tonight - I had to write a dreaded email to my hair/makeup artist. I had a trial with her about a week ago. During the trial we had done eyelash extensions. After leaving the trial, not even 5 minutes down the road the eyelash extension had come half way off. In addition, I went to her a few days before the trial for some highlights. I had been wearing my hair down since the highlights and didn't realize that the highlights were not done to the root and some places, but a lot higher up. I realized this during my trial when my hair was put in an updo. I didn't have the guts to say anything then, hoping she would notice and do the right thing. I did end up saying something to her the next day after the trial. I was really scared being the eyelash and highlights situation that something bad would happen on my wedding day. She explained she never had issues with these things, but I just figured your trial should not being leaving you feeling scared. Am I wrong on this?

I had already put down a 50 dollar deposit to hold the day, so hoping I can get that back given the situation. I will keep everyone posted.

You have enough to be nervous about with your wedding, I think you did the right thing

You should have received 30 - 80 lashes depending upon the price you paid. Did you lose ALL the lashes or just a few?

Eyelash extensions are tricky. You lose eyelashes the same way you do hair, in cycles. Since each lash extension is attached to a single eyelash, they will fall out naturally along with the natural growth cycle of each lash. It's possible those lashes were set to fall out at that time and took the extensions along with them.

The point of a trial is to check the person out, and if you're not happy then DON'T go with them. However, because that is the point of the trial it depends on what you had agreed as to whether you'll get the deposit back. From the sounds of it she just isn't that good.

I had fake lashes on my trial, having never worn them before, and my MUA insisted I left them on all day to reassure myself that they wouldn't fall off and that I wouldn't be uncomfortable. They stayed put all day until I removed them so I know I'm happy to go for them.

The eye lashes were strips and not single lashes. So I'm hoping that means that they should have lasted all day. I spoke to the vendor last night and looks like ill be losing my 50 dollar deposit. Lesson learned I guess. Don't put a deposit down until 24 hrs after your trial.

It is too bad that you are losing your $50 deposit. But in the grand scheme of things if you were not happy and had doubts then I say it's for the better. Hoping that you find a hair/MUA that doesn't leave you feeling scared Smiley smile

If you're worried or scared, it sounds best to find another one. You want to book vendors and feel excited or good about them and not nervous about them until and on your wedding day. Trust your gut!

If they were strips they are not eyelash extensions which is what Stephanie was talking about. They're fake lashes. Both those and the individual ones should last all day....I feel like this must have been a freak accident though because strips usually stay on so well.

You did the right thing. Fired mine earlier this week. She did a great job with my hair and make-up, her personality is what did it for me. She was really pushy, bossy, and made me uncomfortable. I should have backed out then, but I didn't. I lost money, but oh well. I'm less stressed now and we shouldn't be stressed about hair and make-up on our special day!

Im not sure why she wouldn't give you your $50 back. If I am not happy with a service I sure in the heck won't let them keep my deposit. I would fight that full hearted. And no you are not wrong to fire her. She did not do a good job and sounds like she wasn't using professional materials. If the money isn't that important to you then just let it go you don't need any more stress. but I am a tight budgeter here so that $50 buck is gold to me. Smiley smile

She doesn't get her money back because she cancelled the service. The woman lost money by not having the business and possibly losing the date that someone else could have used.

You give a deposit in a contract that you are going to use them.

If I decided not to get married right now, my venue would not magically give me back my 2k deposit because I changed my mind.

I may be in the same boat. I wasn't happy with my first trail so I'm doing a second. If that doesn't work I gotta do what I gotta do. The first time she put on makeup that makes me look like a ghost in photos which made the whole thing kinda pointless.

I know this may sound insensitive, but you'll never see her again, so don't dwell on it. She'll survive.
