Fire friendor hair stylist or keep?

Michelle, on February 10, 2020 at 11:49 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 14
I really really need help with this decision. I feel horrible for writing this but I can’t stop thinking about it. Many of you saw my first post about my sister’s sister in law (invited to wedding) who did my hair the first time and it was very plain. She took up my suggestions and did a second trial Sunday and it looked SO much better! I did like it at first! But the more I looked at my photos the more doubt I started to have.

1. I still didn’t think her work didn’t looked neat which is odd because my bridesmaid hair she did, which was a similar style, had no flyaways and was done nicely. 2. My curls where my accessory would sit was high on my head not like my inspiration photo.3. My side bangs weren’t to my liking. 4. I think my curls were too tight almost prom-like? Looser looks more elegant...They did look nice settling in later....
I just keep going back and forth telling myself “they’re easy fixes it’s only $50 for wedding hair” and “I should love my hair and not have to doubt anything...”. I’m seriously considering forking over $100 for a hair trial with someone else with a good portfolio, it’s nerve wracking because everyone’s booking up fast on my date.
I don’t know if I should stick with this stylist or get another trial elsewhere and book. Ugh the awkwardness! see pics below.

I think it looks good but honestly it sounds like it's better for you to go with someone else you're more confident with. You wanna feel confident and good on your big day and this stylist doesn't sound like, provides that for you

I think it’s moreso the neatness, I have so many flyaways and frizz!! Shouldn’t that be an easy fix, you know? I don’t know what else to do for her. I shouldn’t have to guide her.

From the front looks good it’s similar to the pic other than the fact that she needs to add more hair to make the bangs to swoop to the side.

From the side some of the curls look a little messy. Idk. Would you feel confident in the other stylists hands that maybe you wouldn’t need a trial or is this experience making you a little bit more anxious. Im not having a trial but for me I had to make a decision between two hairstylist 1 who was half the price but didnt have any wedding updos in her portfolio & I had to drive to her salon and 1 other stylist who was more expensive because shes from out of town but has lots of nice updos on her profile. I ultimately went with the more expensive girl because I can see a lot of her work andd she will travel to my house. Pt of the story is, If it will make u feel better & u can afford it then spend the extra cash to make urself happy & less stressed.

It’s a lot of money but I can do it. I guess I was satisfied with her work because I was just a bridesmaid lol but as a bride I want it to be perfect...it literally makes me feel sick in the stomach thinking of not being happy with my hair and also hurting her feelings. I shouldn’t have made it sound so sure I was booking her but I was confident with her beforehand. Smiley sad thank you for your honesty on my hair.

I'm of two minds. Saving money but also liking the result. It sounds like you're not a fan of her work to the point that you'll be grumbling over wedding photos instead of smiling at them. If that's the case, then I'd see about a new stylist. You're only doing this once- is it worth it to sigh at your hair looking back? Only you can decide if the money saved has greater importance. I personally think your hair is good, but my normal routine is brush it and go. Maybe you can get a trial done with someone else and just see if they can get closer to your vision?

I don't mean to sound rude, but I really think you're overthinking this. But I do get it. It's your wedding day. So naturally at the bride you will worry more than you would have bridesmaid because even at the bridesmaid the attention really is not on you. I think at the end of the day if you are doubting her skills than just find someone else. You should really going to your wedding with the Peace of Mind.

I am looking for another hair stylist to try out but many of the ones I contact already have my date booked. That’s the plan though.
But you don’t think I have a ton of flyaways?

I thought your hair looked good and no one is going to notice those little details. You are nervous because you are a bride and you want to look perfect which I understand. I say do what you are doing and keep looking for a hair dresser and if you cannot find one with that date open then you can work with her. I would think of how to let her know you will work with someone else but you should be happy. Check traveling HMUA's too. I think your hair looks beautiful.

It does seem like you have a lot of flyaways, but other than that I think your hair looks gorgeous. Maybe talk to her about putting a smoothing cream on your hair before doing it? I'm not really sure how 'hair' works lol but I feel like there's something you could do to help. I personally don't think your hair looks bad enough to fire her and risk a really awkward situation, but if it's something that you think is going to bother you in the long run, then definitely at least go for a trial with a professional.

    Thanks everyone.

A lot of the stylists on IG with work I love and my budget are all booked. So if I don’t find anything, I’ll just try to work with my current. I just keep looking at the inspiration photos and they look completely perfect. Maybe I am being unrealistic.

I do not think you are being unrealistically. I just feel like this is your day so you will be more particular about your look. I feel you deserve to be happy and find someone that can do what you want.

I think your hair looks good. It looks pretty close to the inspo picture that you have attached... I'm sure she can use some type of product to tame the flyaways.

Instagram sets unrealistic expectations. Unless your hairstylist is Ulyana Uster (basically the master of that style), your hair probably won't look like your inspo exactly. I think your SIL did a fantastic job and the 2nd trial was a lot closer to what you want. I would just tell her your suggestions for improvement and do another trial. That's the best part about using family- you can ideally keep doing trials until it's perfected. There's a good chance another stylist will do a terrible job and you find yourself in a situation of paying for trial after trial.
