Fine China - is it necessary?

I keep hearing that I should add fine china to our registry. I am a very simple person and live in an urban setting in a tiny apartment. I will eventually have more space but i highly doubt I will have a giant living room with china cabinet in the ext 5 years. They say "now is the time to get it"...

They say "now is the time to get it" because people will buy it for me, and I know I would never buy it for myself. But at nearly $200 a place setting, I just can't justify it. Can't we just use a nice set of plates that cost a quarter of the price?

Should I add fine china to the registry? Is this something that comes in handy? Or is it a generational thing?

Tbh for my first marriage we registered for it and people bought it, also fine silver.

I never used it once and gave it to my parents when I was divorced.

If you entertain a lot for like family holidays, consider it. Otherwise just get nice everyday stuff.

I have a simple white mikasa set that can be dressed up but use fiesta ware daily.
