Finding the White Rabbit at the reception...

Alycia, on May 15, 2019 at 4:14 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
Alice in Wonderland (the classic version) was always my favorite as a child. I know the movie line by line. I don't want my whole wedding to be based upon it. That has been done a lot. The only thing that will be at the ceremony is red roses in the bouquets. The guests won't know the connection at that point. I want to incorporate a few fun touches at my reception. The cake will be "Painting the Roses Red" themed, with the cards painting white roses red. The cake will be surrounded by half- painted rose cupcakes. My table centerpieces will be themed as well.

Here is the part I can't decide on... I want to make a game of finding the white rabbit during the reception. It's game that will be introduced on place cards at the tables. No one will know in advance. The venue is outdoors, with trees and bushes all around. I need ideas of what type of white rabbit to use. A plush? A resin/ porcelain figure? A card with an image of the rabbit? A cookie or chocolate with the rabbit's image? Once the rabbit is found, what type of prize should I offer? There won't be kids at the wedding. Teens and adults only. Should I hide more than one? What would make this game fun and intriguing for mature people?

Where to hide the rabbit?Finding the White Rabbit at the reception... 1

What about a bottle of wine for adults or craft soda for teens?

I would do a resin/porcelain as it seems a little more adult than a plush or candy rabbit. Gift wise - you could do about anything. A gift card to a restaurant would fit both adults and teens. I wouldn't do wine because what if a teen "wins" and they win wine..but are too young? Maybe put there's a prize to the winner. I'd just do one hidden one - easier to track that way. If you wanted to do "two" I'd let someone find it, then if there's enough time, have someone casually hide it again and make an announcement that it's hidden again. I think the teens would have fun trying to find it.

I love games! Don't do a cookie. Insects will be all over it like a hot mess.

This sounds so fun! I'd do multiple ceramic rabbits depending on the size of your group - maybe 5 small and 1 big (grand prize). And then the prizes could be themed as well. Depending on your numbers, it is very likely that the teens may end up more engaged than the adults, so I'd probably avoid wine, but some neat craft beverages, as suggested, with Drink Me labels? Can't remember much else from the book - were there tarts? Some nice boxed tarts or other themed food items as prizes. I think folks enjoy edible prizes.

I love these ideas! So I think you’re all right about the figure rather than a plush or edible rabbit.
I love the “drink me” label idea! I’m actually putting version of that on my after- party invitations. That would tie them together.
I also like the idea of a few small prizes and a grand prize.

Where would you hide the rabbit(s)? In centerpieces and decorations, or in the natural environment? (Bushes, etc)

I personally don't think that games are necessary at a wedding. Mingling, eating, drinking, and dancing is enough to entertain adults.

People don't play games because they are "necessary". They play because it's fun. I personally enjoy fun.

Well op asked, "what would make this game fun and intriguing for mature people?"

My answer to that question is, nothing.

Nothing about a game at a wedding is intriguing or fun to me. So while you may think it's fun, there are others who think it feels very immature and birthday party-ish.

I am the op. I did ask for what would make the game fun and intriguing. I did not ask for a snobby perspective that puts down the rest of the posters who find games to be fun. There is nothing "immature" about adult games. I'm kind of sad for your guests who will be judged if they actually try to have fun at your reception. Heaven forbid.

Getting back to the fun... Where would you all hide the rabbits? On tables, in the centerpieces? At the bar? The dance space? I want it to be somewhere the guests won't easily see right away. Somewhere they will happen across the rabbit (s) as they are enjoying the evening.

I'm not trying to put anyone down. To me themed weddings are waaaay too much. I've honestly never seen one done tastefully. Clearly you feel differently. If you think that opinion is snobby, that's fine. If it's snobby to urge people to stop overthinking the planning process, I guess I'm a snob.

I'd love my guests to have fun at my reception! It's a celebration! They're great people. We always have fun in each other's company and I'm planning a fun party for the people close to me.

I'm not judging you for having fun. I'm just saying this game probably has a better place at a bridal shower than a wedding.

I think weddings that just go with the flow of tradition are so boring. I would love to do something fun like this. Don't worry about nay-sayers. I quit posting discussion threads on here for people to comment on because there's too much negativity. Enjoy life - play the game. Don't take life seriously. None of us get out alive anyway . LOL
