Finding a dj

Addie, on March 31, 2020 at 11:24 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
Hii all, currently searching for a DJ & I just want to hear from everyone, given the COVID-19 quarantine/closures etc. I’m not able to physically meet & hear these DJs I talk to. What are things I should make sure to ask via phone or email so I can get a good judgement/feel?

We used a DJ that our venue recommended. They had a whole list of different vendors they recommended. Their list included several different DJs and I reached out to all of them. I live in a different state from where my wedding was so I was unable to meet with any of the DJs prior to booking one. I reached out via email. The one I went with I just went with my gut. Something told me he was the one I would be the happiest with. I looked at his Facebook, WeddingWire and The Knot to read and his reviews and he came highly recommended. He honestly made our wedding reception so much fun. He was probably my favorite vendor out of all of the ones I selected.

If you have any friends that had weddings with a DJ, you could even get those recommendations from them! my DJ was someone that was recommended to me as well.

I didn't get to meet with most of my vendors in person before hiring them. I did video calls and prepped before to figure out what questions I had. For a DJ, you want to know if the one you meet with is the one who will handle your event, or if it would be someone else. You want to know their style of DJing, their experience, if they're familiar with your chosen venue or not, cost (including any up charges or extras, like staying later if needed).

Be sure to ask whether they will MC too or just DJ. Some DJs strictly play music and do not provide any guidance to guests in regards to when they are to do certain things like go up to the food stations/buffet if you are having one.

Also be sure to see what packages they have/what they include. Some DJs include uplighting and other things if that is something you are interested in. Some charge extra for doing ceremony music, etc.
