Finally Met the Future In-laws

Jazmine, on June 10, 2019 at 10:35 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 16
Over the weekend, the in-laws flew up and we had a successful family cookout. I am over the moon to say that both sides of the family meshed together effortlessly. I am so excited for the future now that we know that the family gets along great! Btw, we have been dating for over two years and I never met his family so this was a big deal to me and it went so good! I am so happy.

When did you meet your future in-laws? How did it go? I need stories!

Me and fh met in 2011 his freshman year of high school and went on a “date” with his parents and brothers and sisters. So I met them a while ago and we’ve always kept in touch

My fiance met my family before we were dating because he worked in the area we live in and we were friends so he was invited to dinner ect.
I didn't meet his family until a few months after we were dating and....
Well he described the situation as "embarrassing" and that's probably the best way to put it. 🤦
I'm so glad you had a good time! And a good cook out!

We met each other’s families before we started dating since we were in high school, we had to hang out at home a lot. 🤪

That's so good it went well!
I don't know if I ever formally met mine. I think it was just one day I came over to his house and that was that ahah but he formally met mine before I even met him. We go to the same church where my parents started attending and he was already there. My parents knew him before I did.

I’m glad everything went so well! FH and I were best friends before we started dating so I actually knew his parents and sisters before hand! I met them at his moms 50th birthday party, which he planned at the restaurant we both worked at, and he asked me to be one of the servers for the party. By the end of the night, his sister asked when I was going to date her brother 😂

Yay!!! 🎉 You must be so blissed out. 😃

We met each other’s family while dating. We have very small families but get along great. We even hosted Thanksgiving at our house while dating & had a fun time with his brother, his cousin & my mom. I just wish his mom was still with us—I know my hubby would like that and our moms probably would have enjoyed each other.

When meeting my FH's Dad and Stepmom I felt way out of place. He didn't tell me he lived in the country where the driveway is a mile and a half long and his brother who also lives on the property has LOTS of farm animals so me unknowingly wore WHITE pants and a cute strapless shirt with a belt (see picture) and I drive a convertible so I was enjoying having the top down so when I pulled up someone made a comment about "Barbie not being in Kansas anymore" (referring to the Wizard of Oz) I was way over dressed and ended up ruining my white pants but by the end of the night they loved me 💕

I met my future in laws for the first time at an unexpected impromptu dinner. My FH was all doped up on pain medication after injuring his shoulder in a rugby game. It was a memorable experience that's for sure lol

Haha! That sounds like it was memorable. I think that impromptu awkward situations are perfect to show authenticity. How is the relationship now?

Not really. Fiance has a complicated relationship with them and his siblings. I think his mother wants to try but just isn't a socail person. Oh well we don't see them often 🤷
Fiance adores my mother, they eat snacks and watch lifetime together 🤣 so it's not like he's missing out on having a mum.

I met my guys family on Thanksgiving 4 years ago, totally last minute, I was just passing through, unshowered, living out of a semi for 2 months, and it was awkward but I knew from the moment I met them that I would love them. I met them again on Christmas that year and I was showered and presentable. I cleaned my guys house and cooked for everyone. My mom and sister came over and our families have been inseparable since!
I'm glad your experience was everything you hoped it would be!
